1. What do I get from the KONA LHi that I donʼt get in an LHe?

On top of the exceptional analog and digital I/O and hardware down-conversion customers are used to from the popular KONA LHe, your clients gain:

2. What Applications are supported by LHi?

KONA LHi comes with AJAʼs Machina software application for stand alone I/O and conversion needs, along with powerful hardware drivers and plugins for Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5, After Effects CS5.5, and Photoshop CS5.5, Sony Vegas 10, Eyeon Fusion 5.3, and Autodesk Combustion 2008. 

Many other software vendors who have supported other AJA cards in the past are currently hard at work on KONA LHi support.

3. What Operating System do you recommend for KONA LHi?

AJA Recommends Windows 7 or Vista 64-bit for use with KONA LHi.  Windows XP and Vista 32 are also supported, but due to the increasing memory requirements of many software applications, Windows 7 and Vista 64-bit will give you the best performance because you can add a lot of RAM to any system that supports a 64-bit Operating System.

4. Is KONA LHi Cross Platform?

Yes, KONA LHi is the same hardware for both Mac and PC.  The LHi card can be used with either Operating System simply by installing the proper drivers along with the physical card.

In addition, KONA LHi also records and plays back QuickTime files natively, allowing cross-platform workflows to/from KONA-equipped Mac systems.

5. Why do I need the KLHi-Box?

Not everyone will need the KLHi-Box, but the vast majority of users find it useful. 

With the KLHi-Box you also get:

• Convenient and clean 1RU Rack-mountable interface• Additional 2-channel analog RCA audio outputs for monitoring• Loop output for the Ref/LTC input• Unbalanced BNC and Balanced XLR digital AES audio I/O• 5-meter tether cable option available

6. What Compression types are supported by KONA LHi?

KONA LHi supports capture of many types of uncompressed files including many types of file sequences including DPX and Cineon, as well as uncompressed QuickTime files and more.

Additionally, the KONA LHi can capture DV or DVCProHD compressed QuickTime files which can be used in a huge number of applications and platforms, including OSX systems equipped with KONA.

In Adobe Premiere Pro the KONA LHi can also play out most file-based video types such as P2 DVCProHD MXFʼs, AVCHD, XDCamHD, XDCamEX, as well as FireWire acquired files such as HDV and DV.

In Sony Vegas 10 software, it is even possible to capture MPEG-2 MXF files.

Be sure to read your release notes for your particular NLE software as the options that KONA LHi makes possible, continues to grow.

7. Can KONA LHi be used in Avid Media Composer?

Not at this time. However, the AJA Io Express is now supported in Avid Media Composer version 5.5 and NewsCutter 9.5 for both output AND capture.

# #8. What Cameras and VTRʼs are compatible with KONA LHi?

Virtually any camera or VTR can be used with KONA LHi. 

Because the LHi has SDI, HDMI, and analog connectivity, any video device that has any one or more of these types of connections can be used.  

Also FireWire-based cameras and file-based cameras can be used without actually capturing through the KONA card.  For instance, DV and HDV cameras can be used by capturing files with the standard DV/HDV capture tools in your NLE and then using the files in an AJA Project for editing, conversion, and output through the KONA LHi.

9. Do you have Adobe Plug-ins for the PC to use with KONA LHi?

Yes, LHi plug-ins for Adobe CS5 applications are now available, offering support for CS5 Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Photoshop with CS5.5 support coming soon.

10. Does the KONA LHi support Dual Link 4:4:4 or 2K?

No.  For this functionality a KONA 3G would be the better choice.
