the romantic town on the river Neckar whose “position and surroundings has, you might
say, something quite ideal,” as Goethe himself said long ago.
Year after year, millions of people come from all over the world to Heidelberg. Its unique
blend of the romantic, the academic and the cultural draws tourists and business travel-
lers alike. This very special atmosphere has seen Heidelberg also develop into one of the
most popular towns for conferences and congresses over the last few years.
Whether you want something historical, stylish, elegant, futuristic or more offbeat, Hei-
delberg can offer you premium venues with unique design concepts, all against an incre-
dible backdrop: the Heidelberg trio of the river, the old town and the castle. Heidelberg
is a popular conference and congress destination for event organisers from a number of
different sectors – however, its real specialism is the academic world. In Heidelberg, town

and gown are closely interwoven and have been for several hundred years – since Germany’s oldest university Ruperto
Carola was first founded here in 1386. Today Heidelberg is considered a stronghold for Life Sciences; the university, the
European Molecular Biology Laboratory, the German Cancer Research Centre and the Heidelberg Max Planck Institute
are all amongst the best in the world for fundamental research.
For smaller and medium-sized conferences, the town offers a broad range of venues – from the Kongresshaus in the old
town to the world-famous castle and the 21st century style of the futuristic Think Tank of the Print Media Academy – or
venues with an industrial feel such as the HalleO2 in the former goods station. The flagship of Heidelberg’s conference
and convention venues is the Kongresshaus Stadthalle Heidelberg.
I look forward to seeing you here!
Yours, Sinika Müller

EXCLUSIVE CONVENTIONS IN A HISTORICAL AMBIANCE
The flagship of the Heidelberg convention and congress
locations: the Kongresshaus Stadthalle Heidelberg. Thir-
teen function rooms provide 2500 square meters of
floor space for conventions, congresses and events for
10 to 1250 people. With its sumptuous, late 19th cen-
tury architecture and flashes of art nouveau brilliance,
the Kongresshaus forms a stunning backdrop for con-
ventions, congresses, balls, banquets, receptions, and
concerts. While the Großer Saal with its broad sweeping
gallery is the jewel in the crown, smaller rooms such as
the Ballsaal or the Kammermusiksaal are also historical
gems in their own right. The Kongresshaus is nowadays
equipped with the latest audio, projection, lighting and
communication technology. An in-house catering team
serves international specialties, fine regional cuisine and
hearty snacks.

Kongresshaus historisch:
❙ Opened as a festival venue for the city’s residents in 1903 to mark the 100th an-niversary of the University Reform
❙ Style: Neoclassical architec-ture from the turn of the century
❙ 1945-1951 Occupied by the Americans. Establishment of a Special Service Center
❙ 1980 The Stadthalle is granted protection as an architectural monument, restored, and renamed the Kongresshaus Stadthalle Heidelberg
❙ 1999 Extensive restoration and renovation
The Kongresshaus is a house with history. It was dedi-
cated as a gathering and festival building for the city‘s
residents on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of
the University Reform in 1903. Ideally situated within
the Old Town, the Kongresshaus sits right on the banks
of the River Neckar with hotels, restaurants and attrac-
tions such as the Old Bridge or the famous castle just a
few minutes away.
No wonder that conventions in Heidelberg are conside-
red the “Congresses of short distances”. Directly in front
of the entrance, the boats of the “Weisse Flotte” provide
a really special extension area for very large gatherings.
Romance meets Science – it is this mixture that makes
Heidelberg such a unique venue for international and
national conventions and congresses.

Conventions, congresses, trade fairs, exhibitions, con-
certs, balls – the Großer Saal is the very heart of the
Kongresshaus. Sculptures, paintings and elaborate Ju-
gendstil decoration create a magnificent ambiance for
events of up to 1250 guests. Taking pride of place is the
peerless and fully restored Voit organ from 1903, when
it was the model for organbuilders throughout Europe.
Technical extras and a large stage provide a range of uti-
lization options in the Großer Saal. Flanked by the Ste-
fan-George-Zimmer, the Gustav-Mahler-Zimmer, and
the Meriansaal, which acts as a perfect location for the
in-house catering, the Großer Saal is extremely flexible.

tuous gilt touches, all contribute toward the stately at-
mosphere of the Meriansaal. The Meriansaal is the se-
cond largest space in the Stadthalle and is ideal for
events of up to 330 people. It lends itself to a wide
range of uses.
The central access to the kitchen area makes it a popu-
lar venue for treating guests to culinary delights before

STADTHALLE HEIDELBERGCATERING
As part of its marketing of the Stadthalle, Heidelberg
Marketing puts the emphasis on offering a full service
concept. Working closely with Chef de Cuisine Kai Bü-
ckle, hotel management specialist Benjamin Huckele has
been responsible for the cuisine on offer at the Kon-
gresshaus Stadthalle Heidelberg. From gala dinners for
the AGMs of multinational corporations to major scienti-
fic congresses, Huckele is on hand to offer expert advice
to every client. Together, we can create totally unique
concepts for every occasion. From goat’s cheese with
nuts in a Black Forest ham wrap to homemade noodles
with black truffles, the Catering department has esta-
blished a reputation of the highest order.
Numbers are not an issue. From 300 guests at the Pri-
me Ministers’ Conference to the 2200 delegates at the
international psychologists’ convention, the quality of
our service remains the same. Size is only a matter of
logistics, scheduling, and organization. The team is as-
sembled according to demand. In addition to a core of
permanent staff, we can also call on the services of up
to 60 personnel for large-scale events. And it is not only
conventions and congresses that appear on the cate-
ring team’s calendar. The Kongresshaus is also a favo-
rite venue for concerts, receptions and balls, from the
grand Perkeo event with 800 people to the “Vampire
Ball”, which attracted 2500 guests. When it comes to
catering, the Kongresshaus is a gastronomical delight.

The night watchman has been responsible for the safety of the citizens within the
city walls since the Middle Ages. Ever since the Romantics began to celebrate Hei-

ruins of the castle for eternity in copperplate engravings, guests have been coming

preters of the history of Heidelberg takes you on a tour
through the city: The great American writer and humo-
rist Mark Twain takes an hour off to describe to you, in
his typical and inimitable fashion, his personal take on
the sights and history of the city and the people who
live there, and all in accordance with his motto: “Truth
is the most valuable thing we have. Let us economize
it”. A joy to walk.
Take a boat trip along the river and enjoy a very special view of Heidelberg and its
sights, including the Old Bridge and Heidelberg Castle. Boats can be hired for priva-
te trips. The boats have a capacity of 200 to 500 people. Charter trips can be boo-
ked on request at any time and for different durations as required. If you wish, we
will be happy to book your lunch or dinner as well. There are commentaries on all
trips in German, English and French. Themed trips can also be arranged on request.

CONGRESSES OF SHORT DISTANCES
Kongresshaus Stadthalle Heidelberg is only a short walk away from a large number of hotels, Germany’s longest pedestrian zone, and famous
sights such as the Old Bridge, the Philosophenweg, and the renowned castle. The Stadthalle can even be easily accessed by water: The boats
of the Weisse Flotte tie up practically at the front door, as does the emission-free, solar catamaran “Neckarsonne”, which is used for excursi-
ons down the Neckar Valley.
