This week our staff completed a refresher in the collection of data regarding disability. Each year, Kootingal Public School, like all other schools across Australia, complete a collection of data to support students with disability. This is called the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD). For the last three weeks, we’ve had this notification in our newsletter and a small leaflet was provided to all students. The NCCD is an annual collection of information on the numbers of students with disability and the adjustments they receive. At Kootingal Public School, we support all students to access the curriculum. However, for students who present with a disability or learning difficulty, we ensure we have the appropriate supports in place including, but not limited to, intervention programs, SLSO support, adjustments within the classroom learning activities, small group work, groupings based on achievement levels and individual learning plans. If you have any questions regarding the support for your child, please don’t hesitate to contact the school.

It’s so wonderful seeing our students being active in the playground. Currently we have different breaks for both K-2 and 3-6. This additional use of space is being well utlised by all students when in the playground. Last Friday, I took some photos during my playground duty and the students were only too happy to demonstrate their prowess. We have gymnastics, running races, cricket, shots on goal for soccer, force ‘em backs with the footy, skipping, stilts and the list goes on. Kootingal children are active children. Keep up the great work.

As the restrictions ease across NSW and the rest of Australia, families may wonder as to when we may resume our normal routines. As yet, the department hasn’t provided any further advice than what we received prior to the resumption of full time attendance by students. We will continue in our current mode of operation once we receive further advice. Again, we are trying to limit the face to face contact we have with families. We are more than happy to talk with you over the phone at a mutually convenient time. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to make a call or inbox the school via Facebook.

This week our PBL focus has been on the second of our five whole school expectations. That is, keep your hands, feet and objects to yourself.

This week, our team is meeting with Assistant Principal PBL,Ms Shannon Sampson, to assist us with the finalisation of our permanent signage and planning for PBL implementation in classrooms. We already have some of the signage in production and we expect installation Monday 22nd June. We will have a new half moon sign above the electronic sign, our PBL logo on one of the front fence panels and vinyl wrapping on all the poles of the COLA. See below the images demonstrating our new signage.

Below is the scope and sequence for the teaching of PBL expectations this term.

Dear parents, guardians and carers

Re: Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD)

Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019).

Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes: • year of schooling • category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional • level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice,

supplementary, substantial or extensive.

This information assists schools to: • formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with disability in schools • consider how they can strengthen the support of students with disability in schools • develop shared practices so that they can review their learning programs in order to improve

educational outcomes for students with disability.

The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disability.

The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child and your child will not be involved in any testing process. The school will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information. To find out more about these matters, please refer to the Australian Government’s Privacy Policy (https://www.education.gov.au/privacy-policy).

Further information about the NCCD can be found on the NCCD Portal (https://www.nccd.edu.au).

If you have any questions about the NCCD, please contact the school.

Kind regards

Cara Cracknell Principal
