Die Oos-Kaap se kleiner skole sal binnekort

hoor of hul daeweens lae leerdergetalle getel

    is.

Dit volg nadat Angie Motshekga, Minister

van Basiese Onderwys, ges het die Suid-Af-

    rikaanseSkolewet souaangepasword omdie

sluiting van horskole met minder as 135

leerders moontlik te maak, het die Sunday

    Times berig.

Daar is meer as 5 000 skole in di provin-

Waar daar dusminder as di getal leerders

is, kan die onderwysdepartement nie n on-

derwyser aanstel nie en word die leerder en

    die slaagsyfer negatief beinvloed.

    lors.

    The service delivery directorates were

    mandated to drawupan implementation plan

based on R3.5 million available funds.

    According tomunicipal spokesperson,Lau-

ra-Leigh Randall, the various projects will be

funded through savings brought about by

cost-cutting measures for the remainder of

    the financial year.

Stricter controls over overtime and fuel

usage have resulted in an anticipated saving

of R4-million on the R9,3-million budgeted for

overtime for 2014/2015, and R2-million on the

R8,1-m budgeted for fuel, says Randall.

This savings will be re-allocated in the ad-

justment budget to fund programmes such as

the ward-based service delivery do-ables as

per the Back to Basicsmandate of the COGTA

    Minister.

Improvements for Oyster Bay include the

upgrade of the community hall, electricity

and the formalisation of informal areas, as

well as the fencing of the transfer station.

Pellsrus, ward 2, will see the building of ab-

lution facilities and the repair of existing ab-

    lution facilities.

A mobile clinic and councillor offices are

on the cards for ward 6 (KwaNomzamo, Hu-

mansdorp), while ward 7 (Thornhill) is in the

pipeline for theupgrade of the sports field and

    sewerage for 87 houses.

Andrieskraal in Patensie (ward 10) will get

a new school while the informal settlement

in Sea Vista (ward 12) will be formalises.

Hankey (ward 13) will see the construction

of a sports field, a play park, taxi shelter, busi-

ness centre and houses. The stormwater

    problem will also be addressed.

A clinic and community hall will be con-

structed in Ocean View (ward 15) and the

    roads will be upgraded.

Potholes will be fixed in all the wards and

bushes and plots will also be cleared through-

out the Kouga. Speed bumps will be construc-

    ted in all 15 wards.

    Residentswill furthermore see the erection

of no dumping signs and street names, the

cleaning and fencing of graveyards, as well

as skip bins and the repair of all street lights

    not working.

THE suspension bridge in the Storms River Mouth Rest Camp is

closed since Monday, January 12 for maintenance work.

Work is expected to last approximately six weeks. According to

Lesley Ann Meyer, Park Manager of the Tsitsikamma section of the

GardenRouteNational Park (GRNP), it has become standard operat-

ing procedure to maintain the bridge every five years.

Visitors to the Storms River Rest Camp will not be inconven-

ienced as the Mouth trail will remain open and the two connected

bridges to themain bridge onewill remain accessible. Furthermore,

all otherhiking trails starting fromthe rest campwill beunaffected,

    says Meyer.

According toMeyer, the suspensionbridge is popularwithvisitors

for its shaky, yet concrete structure over the Indian Ocean. It leads

to the lookout point show-casing the breathtaking variety of indige-

nous forests, theMarineProtectedArea (now50years old) and rivers

    in the area.

The bridge was constructed in 1969 and is about 77 metres long.

The two additional bridges were constructed in 2006.

THE re-opening of the Jeffreys Bay Library at their premises, the

Jeffreys Bay Ski Boat Club, will be delayed by two weeks.

According to Kouga municipal manager Sidney Fadi, the delay is

due to the late arrival of supplies for the refurbishment and altera-

    tions to the building.

The library will now open on February 2 and not January 19 as

previously stated. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

The library is being relocated as part of the Kouga Municipalitys

    cost-cutting measures.

. The owners of the Jeffreys Bay Ski Boat Club were given a written

notice in January 2013 by the municipality, informing them about

the termination of their contract. They were given three months to

vacate their premises since the piece of land is required formunicipal

    services.

    THEKougaMunicipality is once again seek-

ing the views of the public regarding its per-

    formance in service delivery.

The municipality is conducting its fourth

    annual Customer Satisfaction Surveywhere

locals can rate themunicipality on their ser-

    vice delivery to the public.

    According to Kouga acting executivemay-

or Vernon Stuurman, the survey serves as

a platform where residents can freely ex-

press their views in comfort and without co-

    ercion.

On many levels we have sought to im-

prove our service to our communities. Over

the past year we have unveiled a number of

big projects that go towards improvement of

services to our people and the latest prelimi-

nary report of the Auditor General shows

that we are on the correct path, says Stuur-

    man.

All of this is because of inputs by resi-

dents in different wards and the survey is

one of the important platforms for us to gath-

    er information.

The levels of satisfaction are measured

with scores of numbers one (1) to five (5),

with the lowest number representing a nega-

tive opinion and the highest a positive one.

The survey is available in Afrikaans, En-

    glish and IsiXhosa.

Survey forms are available at allmainmu-

nicipal buildings, councillors offices and se-

    lected libraries. Formscanalsobedownload-

ed from the municipalitys website at

    www.kouga.gov.za.

Completed surveys must be returned to

the reception, help or security desks at the

    municipal offices. Alternatively, the forms

can be posted to P.O. Box 21, Jeffreys Bay

6330, faxed to 042 200 8606 or emailed to mso-

    [email protected].

The closing date for all survey forms is
