Koondrook Primary School Principal’s Report End of Term 1 It is hard to believe our term is drawing to a close. School finishes for students at 2:30pm on Friday 31st March. Well done to our amazing Prep students who have had a fantastic start to school! Congratulations to our Year 6 students who have taken on leadership roles with enthusiasm and commitment. We are so fortunate to have such a committed group of staff at KPS who work tirelessly to ensure all students are supported to be the very best they can be. We also have parents who make our job as educators so much easier and who put so much effort into making KPS the best school. Looking back over the previous 9 weeks, students have achieved many things this term. Some notable achievements have included: The Preps settling into the daily routine of school life, swimming sports and the Grade 5&6 students complementing their learning with a cluster camp to Doxa Outdoor Education Camp. Investigations and the Year 3-6 students embracing their Educational Research Projects, Professional development for staff in reading, writing, Walker Learning, Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden. It has been very pleasing to see the students embracing all of the opportunities presented to them throughout the term. Well done Koondrook Primary! Looking ahead towards Term 2, we have many things on the agenda. Some of these include: ANZAC Day service, Koondrook Fun Run, Grade 3 and Grade 5 NAPLAN, Lion’s Club Speeches, Cluster Day at Leitchville, Lightning Premiership and Year 3-6 Expo to name a few activities. Students return to school on Tuesday 18th April. I hope everyone has a safe and restful holiday and enjoys the Easter break. I would also like to welcome baby Huxley to the Hall family. A little brother for Islah and Mila to love. Farewell Mrs Charlton White After many, many years as a MARC (Mobile Area Resource Centre) Library teacher Mrs Charlton-White had her last day of teaching at Koondrook this week as she has announced her retirement. Glenda has always ensured she has had her library van, which seemed to get bigger and bigger over the years, at school early on library days to make sure all was set up ready for her library lessons and for borrowing. Glenda has provided a wide range of fiction and non-fiction books for our students; has ensured the books were regularly rotated from the base school library; and periodically replaced and updated to ensure our students had access to a wide range of reading materials. We wish Glenda all the best in her retirement; thank her for all she has done for our school and for students across the cluster. We can now announce her replacement, Mrs McLaren, who is coming from Torquay and knows our own Cassie Altimari! Help Needed to Water Vegetable Garden If you are going past the school over the break can you please drop in to water the vegetable garden and the pot plants near the rear and front of the school? Any help will be appreciated. Fun run The first Koondrook PS Fun Run will be held on Friday 21st April. The children are busy training each morning. Please encourage your children to continue their training over the holidays and get as many sponsors as they can. We hope that parents will join us and be part of the fun day. More details the first week back next term. Holiday Reading Challenge During the holidays we will be running a reading challenge to encourage kids to keep reading. The Challenge Sheet will be sent home with students to be filled in when they read over the holidays. The sheet will then need to be returned to school on the first day back for Term 2 (it would be a good idea to keep it in the green reader bag). Students who read more than 10 nights will go in a raffle draw to win a book of choice from the Scholastic Book Club catalogues.

Week 9 – School Holiday Fun Looking for something to do with the kids this school holidays? It’s Nature Play Week from 12th to 23rd April so why not get out in nature with the kids this holidays. Nature Play Week celebrates reconnecting kids with nature and the outdoors. You could play at the park, go for a walk through a State Forest, a swim in one of our great lakes, get into the garden and plant some autumn veggies or native flowers, go camping (even if its just in the backyard), canoe or kayak on the river, go fishing, or try geocaching. The possibilities are endless! Amanda Bradford
