Prof. S. Ravishankar received recognition from IEEE, Bangalore Section, for rendering best

services during 2008-09 as IEEE student branch counsellor of Amrita School of Engineering,

Bangalore.

A technical paper titled “Mark Sheet Verification” authored by S. Ravishankar, Prashanth Iyer

and Sriram has been accepted for oral presentation at The International Conference on Anti-

Counterfeiting, Security and Identification in Communication(ICASID 2009) at City University of

Hong Kong, HongKong.

Ms. Latha attended a certificate course on ‘Foundation of Image Processing and Pattern

Recognition’ organized by the Department of Information Science and Engineering and Centre

for Pattern Recognition, PES school of Engineering, Bangalore, held from 13th to 22nd July 2009.

A technical paper titled “Modeling of Wave-Pipelined Multiplexed On-Chip Interconnects”

authored by Sundar K. and Dr. P.R. Vaya has been accepted by IEEE, Bangalore Section for the

18th Annual Symposium on “Emerging Needs in Computing, Communication, Signals and Power

ENC2SP”.

Mr. Kartik Kinhal, student, presented a paper on “Development of Freefall Emergency

Evacuation System” in 2009 International Conference on Mechanical and Electronics

engineering (ICMEE 2009) in Chennai from 24th July to 26th July 2009. In this program, he was

awarded the IACSIT Outstanding Student Presenter/Paper.

Dr. Kumar Rajamani is heading two research projects namely; Development of Virtual

Computer-Based Lab Environments and Use of Haptic Devices for Engineering Labs Education and

Development of Vocational Educational Modules and Use of Haptic Devices for Education and

Training at Amrita School of Engineering, Bangalore.

Mr. Vineet Menon (5th Semester) has completed a project, “System to Monitor UNIX Server” –

A system monitoring software used to run UNIX operating system commands in a Java

environment at National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC) during the summer

vacation.

Mr. Eknath Venkataramani (7th Semester) completed a project titled, “Creation of Unique

National Identification System: Challenges for the Unique Identification Authority of India” under

the guidance of Mr. Sitaram Chamarty at TCS Innovation Labs, Hyderabad on 2nd July 2009.

Department of ICTS has launched a new web portal which can be accessed through

http://intranet . This has been made as the default homepage of all the computers in the

campus. Various web services like Intramail, OPAC, Vidya, AUMS, NAS, college website etc can be

accessed from the same portal.

As part of the quality improvement service policy, a new complaint registration system

(Service helpdesk) has been setup by the ICTS Department. Complaints/ queries related to all IT

services may mailed at syscare@blr.amrita.edu.

A proposal for starting a Readhat Linux Certification Course (RHCE), put forward by ICTS, has

been approved by the management.

‘Library Apprentice Training’ began on 8th July 2009 for Library Science diploma students. Five

students have joined the Library Department as Trainees.

Orientation programme on library services was organized by the library staff for the students of

first year B.E. and MBA on 8th and 11th July 2009 respectively.

A book exhibition was held at the new Academic Block from 22nd to 24th July 2009.

HIGHLIGHTS

Dr. Nagaraj B. N was designated as Dean Academics, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham on

24th July 2009.

An Induction and Orientation program was conducted for the 2009 Batch of

Engineering Students on 8th July 2009. The Inaugural ceremony was presided by the

Poojya Swami Amritageetananda Puri, Chief Guest Dr. D. Srinivasan, IAS (retd.),

Correspondent Br. Dhanraj, Dean Dr. Nagaraj B.N and Associate Dean Prof. Rakesh S.G.

To mark the beginning of students’ association with Amrita Institute, a Ganapathy

Homa was also performed.

Classes for higher semesters commenced on 15th July 2009.
