MY FAMILY

The project this week aims to provide opportunities for your child to gain a better understanding of their own family. Learning may focus on the different makeup of families, what traditions your family has, stories linked to your family etc.

Music from the Past Listen to music from the decade your parents, grandparents or other older family members were born. Create your own dance routine to your favourite song. Ask someone to video your masterpiece!

Family tree Look at photographs of your family members and discuss where they would go on a family tree. Have you met everyone? Can you create your own family tree?

Create a card Design a card for someone in your family. It can be a birthday card, thank you card or a card to tell someone how much you love them!

Portraits Draw a self-portrait of yourself (looking in the mirror) or a member of your family. What materials could you use? BBC bitesize- How to draw a portrait: https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/class-clips-video/how-to-draw-a-portrait/zk28qp3 Art with Trista- Self portraits step-by-step: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FAY5ZMxDteE

Mapping Skills Identify the cities, towns and villages within the UK where your family members were born or live. Can you find them on a map? Were any of your family born in another country? Can you phone/Skype/ Facetime a family member who does not live in your house? Ask them to show you what the world looks like outside of their window.

Physical Complete a daily online workout (Joe Wicks, Cosmic Kids Yoga, PE Hub Parent Portal, parkrun online, Go Noodle, Good Energy at Home, BBC SuperMovers). Practise bouncing and moving a ball in different ways. How many bounces can you do in 30 seconds? How many different ways can you move the ball?

Family Maths Can you sort your family members into height order? Who is the tallest? Who is the shortest? Is the tallest family member the eldest family member? If you drew around all your family members' hands; could you count in 5s? What if you drew around their feet? Could you count in 2s?

Acrostic Write an acrostic poem about yourself or your family. Try and use really interesting adjectives.

Have fun Have fun with your family – play a game together, share a book or watch a film snuggled up together, doing some baking as group. How does it feel to be part of a family?

English – writing It is time to find out about your family and traditions they follow.

Monday - Create a word bank about your family to use for your writing tasks this week. You can find an idea here.

Tuesday – Think about a family member who you could interview to find out more about them. They could be a family member that lives with you or a family member that lives somewhere else. Think of questions to ask them. You could ask them about their pets, where they live, what they enjoy doing, what they like and dislike, what they enjoyed doing when they were your age. Write down some questions you could ask them. Remember to use a question mark at the end of your sentences!

Wednesday – It is time to interview your family member. Ask them your questions and record their answers, either by writing them down or by videoing the conversation.

Thursday and Friday – Present what you have found out in an interesting way. Remember to use write in sentences and use capital letters, full stops and other punctuation, conjunctions and interesting vocabulary.

E.g. My mum was born in Crawley Hospital in 1989 and was the heaviest baby born that day!

You could draw pictures of your family or include photographs too!
