Guided Mobile Bots can be a key part of a conven-
tional warehouse where there are long travel distanc-
es and same path movement. As the demand made
on automated order picking in distribution centers
grows day by day, a wide variety of containers and
packages must be picked and palletized, whether on
pallets or push carts; right on schedule, quickly and
with minimum error.
Warehouse areas can utilize Bots in multiple ways.
First, when pallet loads are extracted from storage
areas such as static racks, these loads can then be
transported to shipping for order fulfillment. Second,
loads can be picked up from the warehouse and
moved to work-in-process (WIP) areas or redistribut-
ed to other manufacturing functions. In addition to the
traditional material movement functions, mobile bots
can be used to dynamically store and retrieve SKUs
to supply pallets to and from robot layer picking or
palletizing systems. In this function, the bots are fully
integrated with the inventory storage and storage pri-
orities can easily be reassigned as store demands
require.
The mobile bot platform can tug various types of ob-
jects positioned on a simple frame with four caster
wheels. The frame can hold multiple platforms such
as mobile racks, pallet conveyors, case conveyors, or
any other custom designed structure. Inductive Wire
concept supports data and power transmission and
thus no charging stations are required since the bot is
powered/charged during motion. Any automated
equipment on the bot can also be powered through
the Inductive Wire. Because of their low profile, when
empty the bots can travel through and underneath
stands/conveyors in a grid-like pattern to optimize
travel. This is managed by the bot Fleet Management
software.

THE BENEFITS
… if you want to reduce labor and increase your produc-
tivity.
… if you improved material management.
Replacement for fixed, non-flexible traditional conveyor path
THE BOT FLEET MANAGER
The KUKA Bot Fleet Manager is built upon a flexible
and dynamic software platform with a standard set of
interfaces for integrating with various external systems.
The software includes dynamic route management,
fleet traffic management, vehicle control functions, com-
munication manager, and an I/O interface. The Bot
Fleet Manager is also capable of tracking all loads on
board the vehicles, giving it a level of inventory control
as well.
