We had the unique opportunity to visit this home in March, 2015. The girls knew we were coming and cleaned up their rooms and decorated with balloons and Welcome Signs. They sang wonderful songs in their native tongue praising our heavenly Father and their voices could hardly be contained within the walls of this home! God has truly blessed the efforts made on behalf of these girls as they are happy and thriving. They go to school, have chores to do, and are growing up with plans to continue their lives loving and helping others as they have watched the examples of those around them. The Olmalaika Home is an amazing example of "Stepping Out in Faith." GVM had a vision for a place where girls could come and find an opportunity to change their future and give them hope. Water Filters ~ with a donation of $48 we are now able to put a water filter in a home in Kenya. It will provide the family with clean drinking water regardless of whether they obtain the water from puddles, rivers, lakes, wells or are using rain water. The cost includes shipping the kit to our office in the US and purchase of the bucket in Kenya. We will hand deliver and set up the filters in each we provide them in. If you are interested in helping us provide clean water please contact us right away. We will be taking filters in July to Kenya.

The mission trip became real and hit me very quickly the minute we arrived in the Nairobi airport –meeting those in our group for the first time and saying awkward hellos while we tried to get all our luggage together. As we were exiting the airport I was searching for Kim’s face, and not being able to see her at first didn’t make me nervous until we had a small issue with our many bags and trunks in customs. In just a few minutes there she was coming around the corner and wouldn't you know she had us out of there almost right away. It was a feeling of relief as we left with all our things and her leading the way. This trip was a great experience, life changing and I do not think it could have had any better leadership than what Kim provided us with. In the clinics you cannot be prepared for what you might see. You will come across situations that can absolutely break your heart and yet on the other hand you can step into a classroom full of singing children and feel the joy. I never thought that handing a mother Chapstick for her child would be significant or that giving a child medicine for their earache would make such a big difference but it does! Kenya was an eye opener and I will do it again as many times as the Lord allows me. The beautiful people that you meet in Kenya within the group become your friends forever and the amazing people of Kenya you will never be able to forget. ~ Jasmine Aviles-Beckermeyer

This past month we have been so busy! We rented a truck and took all the supplies down to the home. All the furniture, mattresses, boxes of supplies for the home and more. It is such a good feeling to have that all done.

☺☺☺☺☺

Just last week Kim was able to fly out to California to be a part of a special “red carpet” event put on by the Women Like Us Foundation in Beverly Hills. It was called “A Night to Inspire” and was a fundraiser for their brand new documentary that the foundation is producing and will premier this coming Fall. The Olmalaika Home will be one of the features in it. Kim was able to share about the home and the girls at the event. Then the following day Kim and the film crew went out on Hollywood Blvd and did some filming of her asking questions and sharing with random people on the street about female genital mutilation and early childhood marriage. The reactions varied and many had never even heard of FGM.

☺☺☺☺☺

We are just a month away from our July Mission Trip to Kenya! We have a team of 41 people and we are so excited to have a dentist as part of the team! It has been several years since July’s team has had one!

Update Update Update Update on on on on the the the the ANNEXANNEXANNEXANNEX

It's amazing to think that the funds we needed to furnish the annex have all come in. We cannot put into words how thankful we are!

Already we have been able to take in 4 more girls to THE OLMALAIAKA HOME because we were able to free up more rooms by building the annex. By early November the kitchen cupboards should all be put in and we will be ready for our first guests to come and spend some time giving back to the community and working with the girls. I think it would be a perfect place to spend the Christmas holidays or welcome in the New Year! If you would be interested in spending a few days, a week or more in the annex please let us know. There is no charge and all you would need to do is supply your own food and provide care in the community or at the home. It’s fully furnished and there is no charge. There are 2 bedrooms – one with 2 bunk beds and the other with 2 twin beds. The electricity is solar and it has indoor plumbing – with a shower, sink and toilet. YOU WILL LOVE IT! Our goal with the annex was to be able to provide room for more girls and to be able to give back to the community and we are excited to see it happening.

From Kim’s heart…..

June has arrived and with it the hope of blue skies, birds singing, green grass and a warm breeze. I have learned over the year not to hold my breath though…. Most of you who know me well know that I do NOT enjoy getting upfront and speaking. It is something that is WAY OUT of my comfort zone, but I always told God that if He opened a door that I would walk through it and so this month I am doing two seminars at the Michigan Conference Seventh-day Adventist Camping in Cedar Lake, Michigan. I will be sharing about my life and my passion to end female genital mutilation and early childhood marriage. The seminar title is “My Story ~ 33 Girls” We will also have a booth in the exhibit tent for the entire week and we do hope you will stop by and say hi. It will be June 12 – 20th. There will be a basket for you to drop off any donations ~ please check our websites for items that we would use. Each donation whether it is financial gift or donation makes a difference. The girls are safe because of each of you and your generosity – that is the simple bottom line. Thank you for being a blessing, Kim xoxo
