~ Happenings Two more girls have now been accepted into the home putting us at thirty-seven. Branice is 13 and Timpiyian is only 5 years old – both or orphans. We are excited to reunite Timpiyian with her sister (Janet) who is already living at the home. We still have 5 girls that are needing to be sponsored.

On June 29th Kim will travel back to Kenya for the month of July. We have a much smaller team coming on the July Mission Trip, but are blessed to have a dentist and medical physicians as part of it. One of our physicians is coming all the way from Australia! In May we were blessed to have 3ABN-Australia do an hour long special on our mission trips and the home. It was televised several times and will be available on you-tube.

Some of you might remember Damaris who had come to our clinic last October and had a bad burn on her head and face. Some of you donated to help with the medical costs and we just wanted to update everyone that she is doing GREAT and now going through the healing process. At some point we will post pictures

From our guestbook – - Lorilea Mitchell, RN I work as an emergency room nurse; there are many times when I feel angry and helpless because the children under my care have parents who don’t value the precious gifts they have been given and the results can be heartbreaking. The Olmalaika Home give the girls a chance to avoid or recover from some of the heart breaking consequence that can happen to small girls when poverty and gender inequality drives decision making. At the O’Home they are happy, well taken care of, loved to pieces by Kim, and given the chance to grow into healthy, strong, compassionate women. I support the Olmalaika Home because of the book Half the Sky, because of Kim, and because at the end of a long day at work when I feel discouraged, exhausted, and useless, a tiny part of me remembers that even if I’m not “making a difference at work” that hard earned salary allows me to donate and make an actual difference in the lives of little girls.

This is what we will purchase when the funds come in & this will be the end result.

“Matching Funds x 2”

Here is an update on our “vehicle” fundraising project. We have always had to lease/rent vehicles for mission trips and THE OLMALAIKA HOME needs and it has costed us around $10,000 - $13,000 each year. Without a doubt it would save Global Village Ministries money if we were to purchase our own vehicle. So in April our board voted to begin raising the funds to purchase one. It will cost us around $58,000 to purchase a land cruiser pickup and then convert it into an 8 seater safari vehicle which will be an additional $12,000. Doing this will enable us to: - provide special field trips for the girls & regular transport for certain appt. such as dental &optical - transport supplies for both the home and mission trips. - use it for optional safari after mission trips. - use it for Mission trip transport if we have over the amount of people that fit in the overland truck - use it for when Kim is in Kenya before and after the group. I set a personal goal to raise the funds by May 25th and that has come and gone, but God blessed and brought in just over $26,000. Some friends contacted me and said they would like to match up to $5000 for any funds coming in and it was matched. Then just recently another friend wrote and said they would match another $5000 and so that offer is still out there for any donations that come in. That means that EVERY $ donated will be DOUBLED up to that amount over the next few days. That means we need to raise $32,000 more to purchase it and we will be able to use it while we continue to fundraise for the remaining funds to convert it – but at least meanwhile we will be saving some money. With the second offer of $5000 matching funds that would mean.... .... if 32 people donated $1000 OR.... .... if 64 people donated $500 OR...... ....if 128 people donated $250 IT WOULD BE A DONE DEAL!! It’s so simple – you can GIVE online via our websites ~ or send in a check.

~ Making a Difference in Olorte Global Village Ministries is a Christian organization whose passion is serving others. This organization has been sending visiting doctors, dentists, nurses, teachers and many other skilled personnel to our Olorte community in July for the last 6 years. Olorte is one of the most remote areas in Kenya with insufficient access to health, dental care and many other untold challenges including FGM and child marriage. Through their mission trips we have seen a huge positive impact in the community in all of those areas. The Olorte community sadly discriminates against girls getting their education and GVM sponsors some of the girls in our area that are at risk of FGM/ child marriages and or are orphans so that now they have an opportunity of schooling and a better future. The Olmalaika Home has given these girls a place that they can find safety, love and a hope. Through GVM two of our local schools here received solar lighting systems which has improved the learning of our pupils by providing more time for studying in their evening classes. Our local teachers are also blessed by the teacher who come in their groups as they spend days in the classrooms sharing their skills and exchanging ideas. Our local Olkoroi Camp which hosts the group has been blessed as they team stay there and that provides the income needed to run our projects in the community and pay our staff. Each team that comes shares with others about the camp which in turn attracts more groups. It’s like a word-of-mouth advertisement. GVM donated a couple of wildlife trail cameras which enables us to monitor the wildlife in the area for the purposes of our conservation program. Local women even benefit from the selling of their beadwork to the team which enables them to feed their family and pay for their children’s school fees. KASHU PARIT Walking with Maasai - CO Director/Tour Guide All those who have come with us to Olorte leave feeling immensely blessed. ~Micah’s experience When we asked Micah how the mission trip with us impacted his life this is what he shared: The impact was HUGE! My first trip to Kenya was when God showed me that it was time for me to pursue a pre-med track as a biology major at High Point University. I dream of being a physician that spends 2-3 weeks in Africa every year providing medical missionary care, and I reasoned I should go back for a longer period of time even as a student to enhance my interest in this area. My biology professors are always telling me that the fact I want to go back to Kenya is an indication that my first trip wasn't a one and done deal, but more of a developing relationship kind of trip. I am so excited to be going back to Kenya for an entire month and working with Dr Elfred & Marialita Solis in Kisii at the hospital. I’m hoping that this trip to Kenya will provide even more novel experiences and opportunities like the previous one did. I am also sure that my acceptance into over 2 yrs. of research sponsored by Adidas was greatly influenced by my first trip to Kenya. I remember one of my professors being very interested in my experience. It’s mission trips like these that create discussions and tend to set yourself apart from other students. All that said, I have a genuine interest in serving in Africa want to be a doctor for Godly reasons! Micah Branscomb was 19 yrs old/in his second year of University in 2014 when he came to Kenya with GVM

~ Book Review I recently purchased two copies of this book written by Hibo Warderi and it has made a huge impact on me. On behalf of each of the Olmalaika Home girls that have tip-toed and giggled their way through my heart and those yet to enter the doors I want to thank Hibo for opening her heart up in a very personal way and sharing her story of female genital mutilation. She has exposed the reality of what FGM is in a very personal and open way and her story will compell you to make a difference and stand up for what is right. One copy will be part of every display/booth or talk that I do when bringing about awareness of FGM and childhood marriage and the other copy is already packed away in my suitcase for THE OLMALAIKA HOME library where the girls will be able to read it for themselves. (Kim)

~Michigan Conference Camp Meeting We will have a booth in the exhibit tent at the Michigan Conference Camp Meeting June 10-18 and we would love for you to stop by and say hi. Our main focus will be THE OLMALAIKA HOME along with female genital mutilation (FGM) and childhood marriage *If you have items to donate to the home feel free to drop them off. From Kim’s heart…. I am finally enjoying the warm sunshine, green grass and flowers in Michigan. Spent the last couple of days planting our garden and every muscle I have is in pain, even the ones I didn’t think I had! It’s hard to believe that at the end of this month I will be heading back to Kenya. Our family at the Olmalaika Home has grown since I last was there last and I am especially anxious to meet little Miss Timpiyian who is around 5 years old. Her sister (Janet) who is 8 years old is already at the home and it will be a very special reunion for them this next week when Timpiyian arrives at the home for the first time. God has blessed in so many ways these past couple of months and I do believe He finds some humor in stretching my faith – I am learning to just keep stepping out in faith as He has never let me down. I cannot thank each of you enough for your encouragement, donations, prayers and desire to make a difference. You are each a huge source of strength to me! The girls, the staff, the home would cease to exist without you. Thank you for being a blessing, Kim xoxo
