Summer has made an appearance in Maine. The KVTA and the A-Copi Tennis & Sports Center are gearing up for a great summer season. This will be the first summer your club has been in operation. We are working hard to have creative, fun and challenging activities, clinics and events to bring you indoors for your tennis and pickleball. Take a look at the schedules to see what is new and how you can participate in these events.
Summer tennis camp is a great opportunity for your son, daughter or grandchild to learn tennis or improve their skills. Has your racquet been sitting in the corner a little too long? Give the “Dusty Strings” a try on Tuesday evenings. Feeling hungry? Join the “Soup and Singles” on Thursdays at noon. Play tennis, have some of Danʼs homemade soup and feel good the rest of the day!
As a not-for-profit, this is your club. One way to help is to let us know what you think. Tell us what is great or let us know what needs improvement.
KVTAʼs Annual Meeting is on Tuesday, June 10 at 5:30 PM on Charlieʼs Court (court 1). All members (Gold, Silver and KVTA) are invited to attend.

with 16 schools represented at this tournament. What great exposure for us; what a welcome venue for the players!
With the summer season upon us, we are looking forward to playing indoor tennis without the wind, rain and pesky biting insects. Our new energy miser ceiling will help keep our courts cooler, so don’t let the summer heat keep you from playing tennis - come inside!
We will be following through with our plans to resurface the courts. For your convenience, we have decided to have this done at the end of August with the hopes of having a quicker drying time, so as to get back to playing as soon as possible. We will keep you posted about an upcoming unveiling of your new courts!
Please feel free to stop by and share any thoughts or suggestions you have with me. I am here to serve you.
Deidre’s CornerIt has been an exciting first month managing our newly renovated tennis facility! The inclement weather this spring has brought several high school tennis teams inside to play their matches at A-Copi Tennis and Spor ts Center. Also, on May 17th we hosted the p re l i m i n a r y rounds of the state singles championship

Meet Jennifer LaneyThis month weʼd like you to meet Jennifer! What do you like best about working at A-‐Copi Tennis and Sports Center? I love interac-ng with the members. It has been wonderful seeing many of the members that I remember from working here in the past. Seeing indoor tennis courts back up and running in Augusta brings back so many wonderful memories for me!
What do you do when you are not at A-‐Copi Tennis and Sports Center? I work at the University of Maine at Augusta as the Assistant Athle-c Director, Head Women’s Basketball Coach, and Coordinator of Wellness. This past season, our women’s basketball team received a bid to the na-onal tournament for the first -me in school history. I graduated from UMaine last year with a Master’s degree in Student Development in Higher Educa-on with a concentra-on in student-‐athlete reten-on and I am currently back in school pursuing my doctorate.
Pickleball Anyone? Not only is A-Copi Tennis and Sports Center the go-to place for indoor tennis, we are also becoming a known venue for the popular sport of Pickleball! Dedicated, card-carrying USAPA ambassadors Rocky Clark from Portland and Milad Bozorgnia from Farmington, and paddle distributor Coralee Williams from Bangor have all advised us and come and helped with clinics. We are offering Pickleball courts, paddles and balls on Tuesdays from 5:30-7 PM, Wednesdays 12-1:30 PM and Saturdays 8:30-10 AM for $5 per person.
Another clinic is planned for Saturday June 28, 8:30-10 AM with Milad. Please call the club to sign up.
In Dan’s CourtIt’s nice to get back to your roots, especially when the roots have been nourished by a strong group of tennis players looking to get tennis back in the Augusta area, and new individuals taking up the sport. I feel my job is to take this positive energy and build on it and grow a strong group of dedicated tennis players of all ages.
