    Follow these five (5) inspirational individuals as they go on their journey use their experience to get inspired to make a difference. These are just but some of the many Zimbabweans who are achieving amazing accolades in various areas of business, social development and creative industries.

    We could not list all the individuals who are influencing and chang-ing the world. The five we have selected are to inspire each of us to reach even higher. In areas of business, politics, personal and social challenges, human traffick-ing, Global arts & cultural industry.

    Let us take learn from these Zim-babweans and follow our passions as they influence Zimbabwe, Africa and the world as a whole.

    Tawanda Kembo

    Tawanda is interested in finding innovative ways to meet social needs. He explore existing methods to see if he can remake or modify them to serve todays society. He founded ipaidabribe.org.zw, an online platform for users to blow the whis-tle on corrupt activity in Zimbabwe.

    He also founded Virtual Bank Africa www.vir-tualbank.co.zw, which provides basic financial services to people who otherwise would not be able to afford them. Tawanda is also commit-ted to volunteering activi-ties and job creation.

    Fungai Machirori

    Fungai Machirori is a Zimbabwean new media activist who runs a personal blog and has recently launched a Zim-babwean womens web platform, Her Zimbabwe.

    Fungais personal blog (Fungai Neni online at http://fungaineni.wordpress.com/) tackles personal and social chal-lenges from an intimate, provocative and gen-dered perspective and has been awarded acco-lades including runner-up at the prestigious World Youth Summit Awards in 2011.

    MAKE A DIFFERENCE

    Tinashe Mushakavanhu

    Tinashe believes that the voice of Zimbabwean youth matters and that they ought to proactively participate in the political and social discourse as it affects their lives daily .

    He is the founder of YoungNation, an online portal that harvests conversations to build young people into bet-ter citizens. YoungNa-tion runs an interactive digital hub located in downtown Harare that provides access to infor-mation and applications for communication, com-merce, entertainment and education.

    NoViolet Bulawayo

    In 2010, she completed a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing at Cornell University, her amazing work was recognized with a Truman Capote Fellow-ship. In 2011 she won the 2011 Caine Prize for Afri-can Writing for her short story Hitting Budapest its a film about a gang of street children in a Zimba-bwean shantytown.

    Her novel entitled We Need New Names was released 2013.

    Gilmore T. Moyo

    He is the Founder & Managing Editor of Deck Magazine and also a member of the British Council Global Change-makers International Network.

    Gilmore has been involved in the Global arts & cultural industry since the age of 16 & is the Founder/CEO of Zim-babwes arts and brand-ing management com-pany, Hunnar Manage-ment Agency. He boasts working with Alliance Francaise, Civic World, Tallberg Forum, UNESCO and British Council, amongst many interna-tional establishments.

    At the beginning of each year I sit down and write down what I would like to achieve in the New Year. As I take stock of what my previous years resolutions were I find out that I only achieved one quarter of what I wrote down.

    Disappointed I try evaluate what went wrong, how to fix it and see what I learnt. 80% of New Years resolutions are dumped before the end of January because maintain-ing ambitious new years resolu-tions is challenging enough at the best of times.

    A thought provoking joke I received made me rethink what and why we set these reso-lutions it read

    My goal for 2015 is to accomplish the goals of 2014 which I should have done

    in 2013 because I made a promise in 2012 and planned in 2011 after serious

    consideration in 2010 when it did not go well in 2009.

    Heres how someone has been passing on the same New Years resolution for years even I have passed some resolutions on to the next year. So setting reasonable goals is one step to achieving ones goals whether in finances, future careers, our families and our own perceptions of personal self-worth.

    Heres how to set yourself reasonable goals that will give your ambitions structure and that you can easily achieve.

    Be specific - Begin by carefully considering the aspects of your life that you wish to change or enhance and focus upon what you really want to achieve in the long term remember that long term goals can be broken down into manageable mini-goals once you have decided upon your long-term goal.

    Start by making a list. Dont worry if after five minutes you have a comprehensive mountain of a list. Just be selective and really pin-point the area that you con-sider the most significant at this time.

    For example; you feel that it is vital to achieve more at school so that you can get a place at college next year, but you also want to find yourself a boyfriend or girlfriend. You may be able to do both, but initially, if you concentrate your attention on the priority you may discover that by setting a few mini-goals and taking assertive action, your goal will be easily achiev-able and you can take some time to try to meet new people or encourage different groups of your friends to mingle a bit more.

    Be realistic - Once you have chosen your priority goal, consider how realistic and achievable that goal is. If your aim is to achieve more at school, you may need break it down further to decide on a focused and sen-sible long-term goal.

    For instance; to achieve more at school is likely to be an challenging long term goal that may be set aside and dumped as a result, leading to feelings of failure and a low sense of self-worth.

    Refine this goal by reflecting on how this might be achieved. Some cases would require a change of life-style, in terms of fitting in time to study, dedicating yourself to the task whole-heartedly. Perhaps this may even involve extra lessons, reduction in play time and learning to fight against negative thoughts arise due to fear of failure or peer pressure.

    Long term goals, such as to achieve more at school, are certainly valuable goals, but again, focus on your priority perhaps ask yourself why do I want to achieve this? What do I feel I will get out of this goal?

    Break down your goal Start to question what

    action you need to take in order to achieve the long term goal. These actions will become your mini-goals, which will make your ultimate goal measurable and achievable in the long term.

    As you begin to tick off each action or mini-goal on the journey towards your ultimate aim, you will start to feel a sense of control over your ambitions. Being able to visually tick off a target on your list will act as a positive affirmation, which will boost your self-esteem and encourage you to persevere

    Take action - Now that you have your list of actions or mini-goals, dont hesitate to begin working towards a result. This is an imperative point to be in control and take responsibility for yourself and ownership of your needs.

    Be your own mentor - Measure your progress with regular entries in a notebook or diary and keep yourself on track.

    Finish your progress entry using the mini goals to see how close you are getting to your ultimate goal. The progress you enter in you notebook or diary also can be used to refer back to your progress record should you need a boost along the way if you are feeling down. Maintaining a flexible outlook will also allow you to be kinder to yourself and monitor your needs beyond your goal.

    Get support- Support yourself through this process by treating yourself well; remain positive and mindful about the process and allow yourself an indulgence every now and then. If you do encounter some dif-ficulties along the journey towards your objective, remember the flexible approach, your inner-strength and those powerful affirmations that you have made. Dont let negative thought patterns control your sense of achievement or self-worth. But, you may need extra support to help you to achieve your goal. Talk to friends and family, ask for their advice and most importantly enjoy the time that you have with them.

    Sep 11thSouth African athlete Oscar Pistorius is found not guilty of murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp (and is later found guilty of culpable homicide).

    Aug 12th Ebola outbreak death toll exceeds 1000.

    Some of the moments are tragic, inspirational, influential life changing from the tragic murder charges that the South African athlete Oscar Pistorius faced. Germanys 2014 World Cup final qualifier with Brazil where they won 7 1. The world also witnessed YouTube change its

    video viewer counter because of Psys Gangnam Style.

    Every year I believe each individual takes stock of what the year was like for them, from checking progress either financially, spiritually, evaluating goals, objectives and New Years resolutions. The list is of techniques is endless we use this to measure whether we are closer to our destinations or aims. In the mission Kwantuthu Arts magazine we would like to take note of some of the numer-ous and amazing moments in 2014 covering News. Sports, Music, Film and TV.

    Are you an Artist, or what?

    Have you ever called yourself the A word?

    aaaaaaaArtist. Yeesh. Feels sharp on the palate. Like its going to cut my mouth open.

    The word Artist is LOADED with symbols, expectations, romanticism, allowances. Oh forgive him, hes an Artist.

    I hear Artist. I think: Nabakov (lurid. twisted. synthesthetic. he could SMELL colors, for fucks sake.)

    I think: Picasso (cubism. uh-huh. say no more.) I think: Isadora Duncan (she meta-morphosized the world of modern dance, then died in a tragic scarf accident.) I think: Keats, Yeats, Wilde, Beckett (my quartet of Celtic bards.) I think: Maya frickin Angelou. I think: Alexander McQueen.

    I dont think: Me.

    At least, not until recently.

    Thats a lie. Not until never.

    Lately, my inner mentors (thats what I call the voices in my head, by the way) have been ask-ing me, are you an Artist, or what?

    And I get squeamish and feeble and weepy and look down at my toes.

    Cause I wanna be. Can I be? Please?

    I dont feel like an Artist or at least, what I think an Artist should feel like. I feel compe-tent. OK I feel brilliant. I definitely feel reli-able. I know Im helpful. Im quick-witted and easy on the eyes and can decorate a birthday cake like nobodys business. I can wordsmith your webcopy. I can visioneer your aesthetic identity. I can even sing, kinda pretty. Ive been told Im a really good kisser. Sometimes I put peculiar colors in my hair, and feath-ers and such. But none of this adds up to

    true-blue, full-blown Artistry. Right?

    Some furrow of my brain has decided that the title of Artist is something I have to earn

    no, further, it has to be bestowed upon me, like being knighted. I cant claim it for myself. That would be too blustery.

    My friend Dyana had a dream for me (not about me for me.) In it, she found a mahogany cabinet full of tiny drawers, each containing a perfectly formed, individually-wrapped work of art. They werent dusty, or forgotten, or locked up. Just stored away. With great intention. As if they were meant to be unwrapped later.

    I wonder which one I should unwrap first. And if itll make me an Artist, at last.
