As such, we want to make sure that your child continues to make progress in their reading and math skills during the break. Below you will find some helpful resources for reading and math that students can continue to access digitally over the summer. Raz-Kids, available for grades K-3, allows your child to access an online library of reading materials from any computer connected to the Internet. Raz-Kids helps students improve their reading skills as they listen to a book read aloud for modeled fluency. Interactive quizzes are available at the end of each book to check for understanding. Certain features on Raz-Kids will allow your child to record themselves reading as well as provide written reflections on what they have read. Headsprout, a wonderful resource offered through Learning A-Z, is most appropriate for students in K-3 and hones in on early reading skills by providing interactive episodes and connected texts. In addition, CommonLit and Newsela, available for grades 3-6, are two essential resources that open the door to a world of teaching and learning possibilities by providing access to countless fiction and nonfiction digital text types (articles, essays, poems, and primary sources). Students in Grades 3-6 are also encouraged to continue using Edmentum Exact Path which allows them to work at their level on various English Language Arts skills. This summer, children in grades K-3 are encouraged to select and read eight to ten books (fiction and nonfiction) at their current reading level. Children in grades 4-6 are encouraged to select and read three to five books (fiction and nonfiction) at their current reading level. In regards to Mathematics, just as students benefit from reading throughout the summer, regular practice with computation, word problems, and math facts help students maintain and strengthen the gains that were made throughout the school year. Happy Numbers, available for grades K-5, is a resource that provides engaging exercises while moving children along at their own pace. This platform builds conceptual understanding while incorporating helpful feedback based on student performance. Edmentum Exact Path, which is available for grades 3-6, is another resource that incorporates an individualized pathway based on student math abilities. With customized lessons and activities, this program is designed to build your childs' skills at their own pace and adjusts accordingly. In addition, Reflex math, also available for grades 3 and above, is an adaptive and individualized tool to master students’ fact fluency in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. We recommend that you try to integrate 10-15 minutes of math practice per day into your child's routines over the summer. Please refer to the attachment for additional resources and websites to support your child at home. In addition, there is an attached list of leveled books that are “just right” for your child. Enjoy your summer!
