The Route

The Route

• We will be travelling from Saint-Malo to St-Pierre La Mer.

• We will be camping every night while we are there.

• The route is fairly flat allowing us to cycle at around 22mph, for 6-8 hours straight; but it is so well planned we hit hills over the last few days.

• We leave on the 2nd of August and return on the 15th.• Our first night will be in St Malo ready to start cycling

Page 6: La Manche to Le Med Cycle 2010

• We wanted a challenge• To raise money for the Earl Mountbatten Hospice• The Hospice needs to independently raise £4400 every day / £2.2million yearly

• They rely on over 350 volunteers and the generosity of everyone to fundraise the £2.2 million to provide for the care of over 800 people Island wide.

• Months of planning/training and the two week challenge itself, all so the Hospice can run for a day and a half.

HospiceWhy The Challenge?

Page 7: La Manche to Le Med Cycle 2010

• We hope to gain sponsorship from local companies and discounts from ferries etc all bring down the costs

• The budget suggests the challenge will cost £4000• We personally will be putting in money for the bikes

Costs

• An average adult consumes 2000 calories a day, with training we consume double that daily

• On the challenge itself we will have to consume over 10,000 calories every day

• We are working with CNP Professional (one of our sponsors for nutrition) to develop an ‘eating’ schedule

Training

• Bike training begins every morning (including weekends) at 6:00 am, lasting 1-2 hours before school. Again evening training lasts another hour. Training is highly intensive and our diets are just as important

• Weekend training consists of a large group Island cycle of around 50 miles, altering our course weekly

• We put in around 25 hours of training throughout the week

Page 15: La Manche to Le Med Cycle 2010

• As part of the training for the cycle, we will have a back to back training days.

• We will cycle around a pre-planned route around the Island, be camping overnight, and then we will cycle again the next day.

• This will be a practise run for everybody – the cyclists will be accompanied by the support crew.

• We may open up this cycle to other people
