COMMONLABORATORY INSTRUMENTS

LABORATORY INSTRUMENTS

Lab equipment is an important part of science in general.

Equipment are used to carry out experiments with ease.

Instruments Used for Heating

Instruments Used for Measuring and Holding Liquids

Instruments Used in Measuring Solids

Instruments Used for Transferring Liquids

Instruments Used for Heating

Bunsen Burner & Alcohol Lamp

Lab equipment that are used to heat material for experiments

Iron Stand and Iron Ring

It is a laboratory equipment used to hold or support beakers during experiments

Tripod

A tripod is a portable three-legged frame, used as a platform for supporting the weight and maintaining the stability of some other object.

Clay Triangle

Used as a support for containers when placed across a support ring above a burner.

Clay triangle can hold a funnel during filtering.

Wire Gauze

Wire Gauze on a ring supports beakers to be heated by Bunsen burner

Instruments Used for Measuring and Holding Liquids

Erlenmeyer Flasks

The tapered sides and narrow neck of this flask allow the contents of the flask to be mixed by swirling, without risk of spillage.

Beaker

A beaker is a container used to hold, mix, and pour liquid or powdered chemicals.

Graduated Cylinder

A graduated cylinder, measuring cylinder or mixing cylinder is a piece of laboratory equipment used to measure the volume of a liquid. Graduated cylinders are generally more accurate and precise than laboratory flasks and beakers.

Test Tube

Test tubes are widely used to hold, mix, or heat small quantities of solid or liquid chemicals.

Dropper

Droppers are for addition of liquids drop by drop

Instruments Used for Holding Hot Solids

Test Tube Holder

Test tube holders are for holding test tubes when tubes should not be touched

Forceps

Forceps are used when fingers are too large to grasp small objects

Tongs

Tongs are similar in function to forceps but are useful for larger items

Instruments Used in Measuring Solids

Triple Beam Balance

The function of triple beam balance is to measure precisely the mass of an object. Mostly, this is used to weight small objects like gem stones.

Spring Balance

A spring balance is use to measure weight or force exerted on the spring.

Instruments Used for Transferring Liquids

Glass Funnels

Glass Funnels are for funneling liquids from one container to another or for filtering when equipped with filter paper.

Pipettes

Pipettes are used to dispense small quantities of liquids.

Dropper

Droppers are for addition of liquids drop by drop
