- Saudi unemployment levels increased by 0.1% from 12.7% in Q1 to 12.8% in Q2 despite total employed Saudis increasing by 13,504- Saudi students leave high school at 17 years old measuring unemployment from 15 years old means figures may appear slightly higher since 15 year olds are still studying.

- 50.3% of Saudis holding a bachelors degree are unemployed 4% up from Q1- Total Saudi jobseekers rose by 18.6% between Q1 and Q2

- 80% of all Saudi Jobseekers are female. - Over 60% of all Saudi Jobseekers are females aged between 20-34- 1,022,663 females were employed as of Q2, an increase of 5,583 on Q1 figure.

- Non-Saudi employment levels have decreased by just under 1%. Between Q1 and Q2- The total number of Non-Saudis employed in the private sector decreased by 110,400 since Q1

EVALUATION OF SURVEY The increase in the national unemployment by 0.1% between Q1 and Q2 of 2017 continues to be directly impacted by a number of specific factors including Youth Unemployment, Graduate unemployment, Female unemployment and the rate of expat employment within the Kingdom.

Labor force survey of Q2 (2017) shows a 0.1% increase of total Saudi unemployment. The highest number of unemployed persons are in the age group of 20-29 with 490,408 unemployed – 66.6% of total Saudi unemployment.

Regional unemployment:Highest unemployment rates dominate Northern parts of Saudi Arabia with noticeable increases of unemployment are Al Jouf, Madinah, Qassim, Northern Border and Riyadh while decreases in the rate of unemployment can be seen in Al Baha, Hail and the Eastern Province as shown below.

Female trends:Overall female unemployment increased by 0.1% since Q1 while female employment increased at 0.54% with over 5,500 more females employed. Female unemployment rates in the Northern region and in Jazan are almost double that of Riyadh. It is important to note that the number of unemployed females with Bachelor degrees increased by 4% since last quarter.

The highest number of unemployment falls in the 25-29 age group. Unemployed persons between the age of 25-29 make up 38.5% of the total unemployment. Between Q1-Q2 female unemployment in this age group increased by almost 4%

The total number of Saudis employed in the private sector increased by 6.4% while the public sector only grew by only 0.1%. Female employment in the private sector grew almost 1% from last quarter, however the number of females in the private sector is still considerably less than the number of males.

The private sector saw a 110,400 decrease of Non-Saudis, with the majority of the reduction coming from construction and trade and a considerable number in the financial/insurance and manufacturing sectors.
