President’s Column Dear LGS Members: Thank you to those who attended our BBQ Ice Breaker. We had approximately 55 attendees that enjoyed the food, music, and friendship of our members and guests. Attendance was a little low compared to previous years, so I encourage you to be an active member in our society and our events. Our society is what we make of it. We will not have our usual monthly meeting for October. Instead, we will have our LAGCOE breakfast at the Cajundome Terrace. Please come support the UL students who were chosen to compete in a poster competition. More information can be found below in the calendar of events. The UL Geology Museum, in conjunction with the Lafayette Science Museum and LAGCOE, has developed a new exhibit “Energy Un-earthed: The Science of Petroleum Exploration.” The exhibit is slated to open to the public October 21, so be sure to come check it out. Mark your calendars and participate in these events:

• LAGCOE, October 24–26. For more information, see their website at http://www.lagcoe.com/home-expo.

• October meeting: We will meet at the Cajundome on October 25th from 7:00 am–9:00 am for a breakfast meeting. UL students will be presenting posters detailing their current research. The bi-annual LAGCOE Exposition begins at 9:00 am. You may register for the LAGCOE at http://www.LAGCOE.com/register. Registra-tion is free and open to all industry members.

• 2017 GCAGS/GCSSEPM Annual Convention will be held November 1–3 in San Antonio, Texas. There are many field trips and short courses, as well, so be sure to check out their website at http://www.gcags2017.org.

• Our November meeting will be held at the usual time on November 15. Dr. Jon Rotzien from UL will be our guest speaker.

• The Geosteering short course, “Beer and Steer,” will be held on December 7 from 6:00 pm–8:00 pm at the Jefferson Street Pub. We will send out more information soon.
