The Azul Wasi family – moving forward,

growing up

We’re so pleased to say that the boys’ home is changing &

growing, just like the boys within it. The home is now providing for

another new boy who joined the extended family in September.

Edwin joined the other children this month. He is settling in well to

his new surroundings & loves helping out around the home.

After securing a grant from the Zurich Community Fund, LAFF now

has funding to further the vocational skills training at Azul Wasi,

additionally giving the home capacity to generate income

through projects such as the guinea-pig farm, greenhouse and

bakery.

LAFF Newsletter Autumn 2010

Just as one trustee ends her Vodafone “World of Difference”

experience another spectacularly takes the baton. Fran Talavera

has successfully secured the international grant, amid 2,500+

applications, giving her the chance to work full-time for LAFF for a

year. Fran is already in the field having started last month to

support and scope out projects in Peru and beyond.

Whilst Fran is out in Latin America, her focus will be split in three

areas:

Working with the Azul Wasi project, progressing it forwards

towards the goal of it becoming a self sustaining entity.

Scoping out additional projects LAFF can support in Latin

America, whilst building our support networks/contacts.

Sourcing funding bodies to sustain and grow the income of

LAFF year on year and maintain the established personal

resource.

To keep up to date with Fran’s work on the ground, read her

blog and follow her tweets at LAFFCharity on Twitter.

World of Difference winner – LAFF Trustee Fran

To keep you involved and

summer helped with general

maintenance; repairing

roofs, windows, shower

blocks and paintwork, and

building a new dining room

at Azul Wasi - all of which

aim to ensure the boys

continue to live in a safe &

secure and homely

environment.

A partnership with volunteer

organisation Project Trust has

also led to the home

securing two long-term

volunteers to support the

home for the coming year,

initiatives, hygiene and

Worldwide there are around 100

million street children, 40% of whom

live and work on the streets of Latin

America.

By supporting LAFF you are making a

real difference to the lives of these

children and giving them the

chance to help themselves.

LAFF has a place in the London Marathon 2011 up for grabs for our

supporters! If you are interested in running and raising money for LAFF,

send an email to [email protected] with your name, contact details,

how much you pledge to raise and no more than 250 words on why you

want to run for LAFF by 30th November.

At the end of November we will be selecting one lucky winner to run

in this prestigious race on our behalf, based on their fundraising

potential and dedication to LAFF.

Festive parties and Christmas cards –

how you can help LAFF this Christmas

Are you having a Christmas party at your office?

Looking for a charity to support with a raffle or

donations?

LAFF would be very grateful for your support over the

festive season to help us help children’s homes on the

way to self-sufficiency – we can provide leaflets and

any information you need to help turn your party into a

fundraiser.

We also have Christmas cards designed by the boys of

Azul Wasi – they are available for you personally and

for sale at your office/school.

No fixed cost – just a reasonable donation in return - so

we can compete with the big boy charities. Please let

us know if you’re interested on [email protected]

and we’ll send you however many you need.

Thank you for your ongoing support!

After we sadly lost one of our much loved Trustees, Hannah, to cancer

this summer, we have set up a fund in her memory. Hannah’s natural

goodness, selflessness, generous disposition, smiles and giving natures

continues to inspire everyone who knew her and infuse the work of LAFF.

We hope that others continue her work as a lasting testimony to her life

and beliefs.

If you would like to donate in her memory, or find out more, Hannah’s

Fund, and details about her work with LAFF, can be found on our

website by following this link.
