Join us on Saturday, April 4 at 9 am (12350 Oakwood Drive) for LRPRA’s Eggstravaganza

The 4th Annual Dogs Walk for a Dog Park willtake place on Sunday, April 26 at noon in Lake RidgePark. Prince William County Dogs (PWC Dogs), a com-munity support group that raised money to build theK9 Gunner Memorial Dog Park in Lake Ridge, ispartnering with the Prince William Parks & RecreationDepartment, the Prince William Trails and Streams Coa-lition, and Lake Ridge Parks & Recreation Associationfor this dog walk fundraiser.

Along with the walk, there will be a raffle, con-tests, prizes, music, concessions and businesses sellingitems for dogs and their humans. Anyone interested inparticipating needs to pre-register at www.pwcdogs.com/events. The fee for the walk is $10.00 per dog.

The walk is approximately 3 miles and will startand end in Lake Ridge Park. The route includes bothnatural surface trails along the Occoquan Reservoir andsidewalks along Lake Ridge streets.

Prince William County Dogs must continue toraise funds to improve the dog park (located at 13000Minnieville Road). All funds raised at the April 26 dogwalk will go toward improving the dog park.

Individuals interested in making a tax deductibledonation toward the dog park may donate online atwww.pwcdogs.com. Checks, made payable to PrinceWilliam County Dogs, may be mailed to 13164 CenterPointe Way, Suite 102, Dale City, Virginia, 22193.

Learn to Swim ProgramLake Ridge Learn to Swim Program

Space is limited, and registration is required. Students must pre-register before the registration deadline.

Sessions last two weeks and the classes are held Monday – Thursday. Make-ups are held Friday as necessary. Sessions may be combined.

For information, call 703-491-2154 Parent/Child Build swimming readiness by emphasizing fun in the water. Parents and children participate in guided practice sessions that help children learn elementary skills. Prerequisite: 6 months through 5 years of age. Cost: LRPRA Members: $60; Non-Members: $65 Level 1 (Water Exploration) The object of level 1 is to help students feel comfortable in the water and enjoy the water safely. The course will cover supported floating and kicking on front and back, alternating arm action, water safety rules, and fundamentals of using a life jacket. There are no prerequisites for this course. Cost: LRPRA Members: $70 Non-members: $75 Level 2 (Primary Skills) The object of level 2 is to give students success with fundamental skills. The course will cover floating and kicking on front and back, turning over front and back, reaching and extension assists, familiarity with rescue breathing. Students swim independently and participants are expected to float on front and back without help and use combined arm and leg actions on front and back without assistance. Prerequisite: Students must be able to demonstrate all requirements of level 1. Cost: LRPRA Members: $70 Non-members: $75 Level 3 (Stroke Readiness) The object of level 3 is to build on the skills of level 2 by providing additional guided practice. The course covers fundamentals of elementary backstroke and improving on front crawl. Participants are introduced to flutter, scissors, dolphin and breaststroke kicks as well as jumping into deep water with a life jacket, diving from side of pool, treading water, self-rescue skills, rescue breathing. Prerequisite: Students must be able to demonstrate all requirements of level 2. Cost: LRPRA Members: $70 Non-members: $75 Level 4 (Stroke Development) The objective of level 4 is to develop confidence and competency in strokes and safety beyond preceding level. Front crawl and elementary backstroke will be demonstrated over a greater distance. Participants build upon scissors kick and dolphin kick while introducing arms for side stroke and butterfly and tread water for 2 minutes. The course covers deep-water bobbing, dives from side of pool from stride and standing positions, breaststroke, sidestroke, and familiarity with CPR. Prerequisite: Students must be able to demonstrate all requirements of level 3. Cost: LRPRA Members: $70 Non-members: $75 Level 5 (Stroke Refinement) The object of level 5 is to develop confidence and competency in strokes and safety. The course will cover rotary (alternate) breathing and swimming underwater. Butterfly, Backstroke, breaststroke and front crawl, elementary backstroke and butterfly are expected to be demonstrated with better proficiency over longer distances. Treading water 5 minutes. Open turns on front and back, diving safely and beginning diving progression from diving board (optional). Prerequisite: Students must be able to demonstrate all requirements of level 4. Cost: LRPRA Members: $70 Non-members: $75 Level 6 The focus of the level 6 class is to refine strokes so students swim with better form gaining more power and swiming with ease and efficiency over longer distances. Level 6 students must show proficiency in diving and be able to complete a non-stop 500yard swim in order to complete the class. Cost: LRPRA Members: $70 Non-members: $75

Trails Oversight CommitteeThe Trails Oversight Committee will meet on Tuesday, April 7 (7:00 p.m.) at the LRPRA Administrative Office

located at 12350 Oakwood Drive. The PWC Parks Department will present revised plans for improvements to the trailsection along the Occoquan reservoir (the section from Lake Ridge Park & Marina to Hedges Run Drive). In addition, wewill discuss the opportunity for volunteer work projects which would contribute to opening up the next sections of trailfrom Hedges Run Drive to Mohican Road and from Mohican Road to the LRPRA blacktop trail. Lake Ridge residents areencouraged to attend the meeting.

The Ridgewood Barracuda Swim Team will be hosting an Open House from 3-6 p.m. on Sunday,April 26 at the Kid’s Choice Sports Center (13000 Spport and Health Drive in Woodbridge). Registrationfor the swim season will being on April 27. The Barracudas will be returning to Ridgewood Pool. Swim-mers, ages 6 to 18, make up our community team. Through July, you’ll find the swimmers and theirfamilies at the pool for early morning practices and for Saturday swim meets.

If your child is still learning to swim, there’s a wonderful team program. Lil ‘Cudas works withswimmers who are just starting out and Take Your Mark (TYM) is for swimmers who need just a littlemore support before they join the Barracudas in competition.

Moms Club News....

We still have our weekly playgroup on Wednesdays at 10 a.m. until it officially is warm enough tomeet at the Lake Ridge Marina playground. Check our Facebook page for weekly updates. We will alsosend out an evite and update about our April general meeting because it will NOT be the first week ofApril due to Spring Break. We have a few Moms Night Out events coming up, so check for details onour website or Facebook page.

The Community Committee will be collecting the following items for the troops overseas: dried orcanned fruit, canned nuts, beef jerky, ground coffee, Pop Tarts, granola or cereal bars, Gatorade ordrink mixes such as Crystal light, razors, shaving cream, shampoo and conditioner, hand sanitizer,antibacterial wipes, envelopes and stationery,and store bought cookies.

Kids can get involved and make cards or draw pictures for the troops. We will collect items untilApril 7th for the troops, so please drop them off at our general meeting or at the LRPRA office.

PreschoolIt is time to register your preschool age child in the Creative Preschool program for September

2015. Open registration began Monday, March 2.The Creative Preschool offers the Five-Day Pre-K and the Three-Day Pre-K programs, which are

appropriate for children who are attending kindergarten the following year. Summer CampThat’s right, Mom and Dad, it’s time to start planning your child’s summer. Our summer camps are state-licensed

programs, and we fill each week with many exciting activities, local field trips, arts and crafts projects, daily swim time, andnew games that will keep your child happy and busy all summer long.

Space is limited, so start planning today! Camp began Monday, June 22. Campers begin the day at 8:30 a.m. and leaveat 5 p.m. There is no camp on Friday, July 3. Registration begins Monday, March 2, reserve your camp week(s) with a non-refundable deposit of $50 per week. (For example, to reserve one week of camp requires at minimum a deposit of $50. If thecamp week is canceled the $50 is not refunded.) The deposit will go toward the weekly camp fee, which must be paid in fullprior to your child attending camp. See fee schedules below. Occoquan Clean Up

The Lake Ridge Today welcomes letters from members (lot owners). Letters concerning matters pertainingto the Association and of general interest to the membership will be considered for publication. Letters must besigned by the lot owner (author); if published, the author’s name will appear with the letter. Letters will not bepublished that contain material of an inflammatory, libelous, or partisan political nature; or that advertise prod-ucts, services or non-Association related events or programs; or that contain obscene, defamatory, or offensivematerial.

Letters must not exceed 250 words in length. For verification purposes, letters must include the author’sname, LRPRA property address and daytime and evening telephone numbers. Volunteers are needed to help out on Saturday, April 11from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. (rain date April 25). The Prince WilliamTrails & Streams Coalition is conducting its 6th annual clean-upof the upper Occoquan River, from nine different sites along 25+miles of the Occoquan River.

The Hooes Run site (LRPRA boat launch area) is includedagain this year. The address is 12405 Forest Hill Road, LakeRidge. Volunteers with canoes, kayaks, or jon boats are espe-cially encouraged to participate – much of the trash that has accu-mulated on the shoreline is most easily reached by paddling.Please register for the cleanup at www.pwtsc.org
