LAND DEED Grantor: Merrit Duke Grantee: George H. Heflin Source: Fayette County TN Deed Book T, pg. 526 Date: 9 October 1856 Notes: $125.00 / Merrit Duke’s interest in family estate / Mentions residence of Lucinda Duke I, Merrit Duke for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred and twenty five dollars to me in hand paid by George H. Heflin the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath bargained sold and transferred and doth by these presents bargain sell convey and transfer to the said George H. Heflin his heirs and assigns my distributive interest in my Mother's Dower (Lucinda Duke) on which she now resides and also my entire interest in all of the land belonging to my Father's Estate in Range 6 and Section 2 Bounded by the lands of Wm. Norman on the West W. J. Hendrick on the South and Peter Culp on the North & East Containing by survey five hundred acres be the same more or less to have and to hold the said land free from me my heirs and assigns and all other persons whomsoever and I do further covenant and bind myself to the said George H. Heflin his heirs and assigns to warrant and forever defend the right and title to the above described land and against all persons both in law and equity.
