MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Happy New Year to everyone. I hopeyou had a good holiday. Although many
neighborhoods look beautiful during the holiday
season, it is hard to beat the beauty in Dunn Loring
Woods. It is always a pleasure to drive through the
neighborhood in December. Congratulations to the
winners of this years contest.
So far this year we have had a little snow and sleet
but nothing like the winter of 2009/2010. Lets hope it
stays that way.
On page 2, we are thanking our special volunteers
who helped out during the annual dues collection.
Volunteers are the heart of the DLW community.
Tax season is here and you can get free help with tax
return and electronic filing right here in Vienna. Just
a reminder that the deadline for filing this year is
April 18.

with holiday lights and
decorations for the 2010

been a tradition for many

of outstanding displays for residents to vote
for and the vote numbers were very close for
the top ones. Award winners for one year
are not eligible for awards the following year
per DLWCA policy, but, will be eligible the
next year. Congratulations to the award

SPECIAL RECOGNITION TO OUR VOLUNTEER CAPTAINS
The world has turned again, and we have now trod well into the New Year, with the hope that
the economy improves, and the year brings good things to all of us. Meanwhile, the books have
closed on Year 2010, and once again the solid work of the Volunteer Street Captains has helped
to complete the annual dues collection for Dunn Loring Woods Civic Association with flying
colors.
We wish to give a Thumbs Up to our Volunteers. We are so thankful for their
contributionof time and energy. Without the continued support and help of the
large number of repeat volunteers, and the generous response of our cadre of new
volunteers, we could not have the same satisfying results to the annual duescollection. For that reason, we should all thank our neighbors who have made this effort for the
good of the association, and the community.
The following are the names of all of the volunteer families we wish to honor:
Becker, Bergeron, Burke, Cherry, Cleary, Collins, Coyle, Cromer, Freudenthal, Dana, Donnelly,
Farrar, Festa, Gross, Herlihy, Kummer, Lilly, Lynn, Kummer, Maines, Mann, MacDuff,
McFaul, McCullen, McKinney, McNally, McShane, Milosavich, Morgan, Noble, Nguyen, Park
Peksens, Ratner, Richards, Smith, Sweet, Thune, Wanchura, Watson, Wheeler, and Wong.

Keep Letter Carriers Safe This Winter
The Postal Service asks for help during severe winter weather in order to give customers thebest possible mail service. Please keep steps and walkways clear of snow and ice. Help keep
letter carriers safe and on the job so they can provide regular service to individuals and the
entire community. Your neighbors will appreciate it too.

MEMBERSHIP
The 2010 Membership Drive is now finished. The Volunteer
Block Captains, lead by the Block Coordinator Eleanor McCann dida fantastic job. Trying to find block volunteers is not the easiest job
and she did it with so much enthusiasm. Eleanor has done the job
for two years and is now stepping down. She has found her
replacement and has passed the folders and pens on to our newest volunteer Kathleen Lynn.
Kathleen will be contacting everyone in August (which is just around the corner).
Eleanor has an article in this newsletter thanking her volunteers and I would now like to say
THANK YOU ELEANOR, I could not have done my job without you and your support.
I am looking forward to the 2011 Membership Drive and working with Kathleen.
As we move forward in the 2011 Membership Drive we will also be publishing the DLWDirectory for 2012.
Thanks also go to all residents who supported us this year by joining the Association.
