For over 25 years Jay White has continued to stretch his singing and acting talents, while reflecting the stage persona of one of the world’s best loved musical icons. Validation came from Hollywood Director, Ron Howard, who in 2008 cast Jay to play Neil Diamond in the Academy Award nominated film “Frost/Nixon”. In 2011 Jay was also cast as the lead in a new musical drama film entitled “Beautiful Noise” and in 2002, began his 8 years as a Las Vegas showroom headliner at the Riviera, sparking national interest and recognition. Leeza Gibbons of “Entertainment Tonight” wrote: “He’s uncanny and truly amazing!,” while Jay Leno said; “you do a great job.” White is also honored to have performed for former First Lady Nancy Reagan, introduced actress Starletta Dupois at the Miss Universe Pageant, received a 2003 “Outstanding Performance” award and has appeared with Bob Hope for the American Legion.

In 1996 and again in 2002 White met Diamond before his Vegas MGM appearances, where Neil told Jay to; “keep up the good work” and autographed a photo of the two signing; “Jay, keep singing, so I can stay home and relax, your friend in music”. From passionate crowds rushing the stage at corporate events, to 1500 enthusiastic alumni at Princeton University, to the cheers of some 18,000 screaming fans in several 2 hour Salt Lake City performances, White is grateful that his years of hard work and dedication are still so convincing and so appreciated.

His singing career began in the late 70’s performing in theatrical productions like “Music Man”,

as well as a do-wop group called The Voices. By 1982 he was the lead vocalist for a top 40 band. In 1983 he began performing as Diamond at a Club near Detroit, turning an unexpected opportunity into five years of steady work. This led, in 1989, to Las Vegas Producer John Stuart asking him to be the closing act in a new “Legends in Concert” show in Reno, soon after joining the world’s #1 tribute show in Vegas as their first “living legend.” Nine years and 5014 shows later, White hired a band and has been captivating audiences in some 4000 shows since 1998. Says White; “From humor to audience participation it all needs to come together to form an exhilarating, emotional experience,” but when he leaves the stage the persona ends there.

Over the years, several Diamond family members have expressed their genuine enthusiasm and amazement. “Their kindness and acceptance have always been greatly appreciated and I’m honored to have appeared with Neil on his DVD boxed set entitled Stages.” Occasionally, two of Jay’s talented children perform with him on stage, while his eldest is an accomplished Marine. Apart from the music, his first passion was to play professional hockey. In the 90’s he became the practice goalie for the IHL Las Vegas Thunder, he’s played in several NHL Alumni games and from 2005-09, dressed in 5 games for the ECHL Las Vegas Wranglers. Even Sportscaster Ron Futrell reported the story of the unique talents of this “Diamond on Ice.” So whether a full concert featuring Diamond’s percussionist King Errisson (or with a 60 piece symphony), acting in feature films, singing the National Anthem at professional sporting events, or staging his theatrical production “Coming to America,” this performer has truly become a polished gem.
