END OF SEMESTER 1
June is always a very busy me in schools with assessment periods, marking, feedback to students and reports. It is also a me
when the whole school community can acknowledge and celebrate the achievements of our students. I would like to thank all
parents for the support they offer their children with their learning. I hope that your children will feel very proud of their
achievements and understand which areas they need to develop over the course of Semester 2.
I would also like to thank the caring and dedicated staff here at LaSalle. They have worked relessly throughout Term 1 and 2. I
believe that each teacher has placed a great deal of me and thought into their lesson prepara on to ensure that the grade each
student receives, is aligned with individual poten al.
They have used their assessments and work evidence to inform their decisions about what each student knows to this point. I
appreciate and value the professionalism and contribu ons that the staff makes to the community of LaSalle. Just like you, the staff
wants the best for all the students in our care. I certainly feel blessed to be part of such a wonderful school.
At LaSalle Catholic College we aspire to: commit to a deep love of learning, engender confidence in one’s ability and to celebrate the
success of all members of our community.
PUNCTUALITY AND ATTENDANCE
To assist your child in their learning I would ask parents to consider the following and to con nue
working in partnership with us in the educa on of your child.
It is a proven fact that a endance to school every day, is the key to con nual learning improvement.
I remind parents of your legal obliga on to ensure your sons or daughters are at school each day and
are happy to work in partnership with you to ensure this happens. Some ps to ensure you and your
son/daughter keep on top of a endance.
Punctuality and a endance are crucial to your child’s educa on. If your child is absent please no fy
the College Office as soon as possible on that day.
I would encourage all students to use their diaries for all homework, assessment tasks and dates to remember. Please check your
child’s diary and encourage them to use this important organiza onal resource. Students who develop such good organiza onal
skills demonstrate commitment, develop confidence and significantly increase their poten al for success.
UNIFORM
The College con nues to impress upon the students the importance of wearing the College uniform and PDHPE uniform neatly and
with pride and the staff work hard to ensure the students are well a red during the day. I would like to take this opportunity to
thank the parents and students who support the College in this manner.
I ask parents and students to check the Uniform Guidelines that are published in the College Student Diary. It is the College’s
expecta on that all students wear their uniform in a neat and dy manner and that the full correct
College uniform be worn at all mes.
As we all know, when one is dressed properly one feels much be er about themselves and this
op mises the learning environment of the College. We will con nue to apply high standards of uniform
at the College in the belief that it ins ls self‐discipline in our students.

SEMESTER ONE REPORTS AND PARENT‐TEACHER INTERVIEWS
Earlier this week, all students in Years 7‐11 received their Semester One reports. With these
reports, was informa on rela ng to the upcoming Parent/Teacher/Student interviews which are
being held on Wednesday 19th July from 3:30 – 8pm, Thursday July 20 from 9am‐8pm and Friday

I’d strongly encourage all students to use their reports and feedback they receive from their
teachers as a means of reflec on of their efforts and progress through the first half of the year, in
order to set themselves up for the second half of 2017. As all staff will be involved in each
interview session in Week One, students are not required to be at school on Thursday July 20 and
Friday July 21 unless they have representa ve sport commitments on the Thursday a ernoon.
2018 YEAR 11 SUBJECT SELECTION EVENING
Early in Term Three, students in Year 10 will also receive their 2018 Subject Selec on Guide. This document details each of the
subjects on offer at the College and the prerequisites necessary for eligibility into each. This will assist in making decisions at the
Year 11, 2018 Subject Selec on Interview Evening, which is taking place on Wednesday 16 August from 7pm.
The format of the evening will include a ‘one on one’ interview with a senior teacher to discuss each students pathway eligibility
and guide them towards selec ng a pa ern of study that best suits their needs and ability. This is a calendared event and is
extremely important for all families to a end. Further informa on regarding the process of subject selec on will be made available

As I reminded all students during the past week, this coming two‐week period is an opportunity to focus on the significant

they enter into this busy period.
2018 SOLOMON OPPORTUNITY CLASS TESTING
Earlier this week, the College welcomed a number of Year 6 students from our feeder schools who were interested in applying to

I take this opportunity to thank and congratulate all students who took part in our two days of tes ng and I look forward to
welcoming each of our Solomon Opportunity Class applicants to the College in 2018.

Saint Yon held its ‘Try A Trade Day’ on Tuesday 20th June for students from other schools

A special men on is needed for Mr Rod Eagles who is the Pathways Coordinator for the

YEAR 7 & 8 PASTORAL DAY
On Friday 20th June, Year 7 and 8 took part in a Pastoral Day concentra ng on
areas of friendship and crea ng posi ve rela onships. All students were
engaged in ac vi es that explored posi ve peer rela onships and reflected on
what it means to be a strong woman or man in today’s society.
Also the students were given the opportunity to explore the process of making
good choices rather than ac ng on impulses.

YEAR 10 COMMERCE EXCURSION: MAKE A DIFFERENCE DAY
On Friday 16th June, Miss Bou‐Simon, Nikola and I went to the NSW Parliament House, commemora ng 50 years of the 1967
Referendum, giving the Aboriginals the right to vote. We travelled to the city via train and saw some interes ng and different things
on our walk from St James to NSW Parliament House. When we arrived at Parliament House, we were surrounded by students from
schools all around Sydney.
Our first order of the day was to listen to a lecture in the theatre by two guest speakers, Dr Faith Bandler and Shadow Minister for
Aboriginal Affairs, David Harris. They discussed the implica ons of the
1967 Referendum and highlighted the importance and necessity of making
a difference in today's society. Nikola and I then got broken up into
groups where we had to analyse sources and propaganda related to the
1967 Referendum.
We were given the opportunity to enter the Legisla ve Assembly where
students had a chance to speak at the podium. It was an educa onally
enriching day that really brought to our a en on the importance of
wan ng to help and stand up for what we believe. In the words of Dr
Bandler, we were placed “on this earth to help other people”. Service to
the community gives purpose to one's life and it also aids in the
maintenance of civil society. Thanks to Miss Bou‐Simon and all the
teachers involved. Carl Wehbe
LUNCHTIME ACTIVITIES
During lunch mes students have taken up the opportunity provided by LaSalle to par cipate in lunch me ac vi es ranging from

All year groups from 7 to 12 have given the ac vi es a go and the fun and enjoyment can be seen on their faces. This allows for
further community involvement with all students feeling even more part of LaSalle.
Thanks to the Year 12 School Leaders who have put up their hands to help in the organisa on of the lunch me ac vi es.
