Our base for the weekWe’re going to be located in Bolulla, around 10km from the

coastal town of Altea - at 214m above sea level but within reach of 1000m passes...

...In an area littered with just the ‘right’ types of climbs for this stage of the training/riding year

Our base for the week

‘Home’ for the week will be a large, characterful villa – formerly used as a training base by the US Postal squad.

As you can see, we’re blessed with some fabulous views and the facilities around the property offer an excellent mix of comfort & relaxation – so your ‘recovery’ can be just as enjoyable as your riding.

Group Rides Skill SessionsAs part of this new venture in Spain we have enlisted the help of a fully qualified coach, Peter Giddings.

To help get maximum enjoyment from your stay, there will be guided rides of varying length and intensity each day. They aren’t ‘compulsory’ and of course, you’ll be very welcome to choose your own routes whenever you want to. But if the idea of some friendly PyrActif group rides that are all ‘part of a plan’, would appeal to you, then there will be something available every day, Sun-Fri During the rides there will be optional

skills sessions to help with the finer points of bunch riding. These skills aren’t just for pros, they’re a great asset for any sportive rider.

Sessions will be based on demand and feedback, if you there are things you’d like to work on or learn more about, just let us know.

Pace-lines aren’t necessarily just for these boys…

Hairpins and sunshine; what a combination!

Sportive Preparation WeekBollula, Costa Blanca, Spain

19th - 26th March 2011As with all PyrActif trips, the priority for our week in Spain is that you enjoy your riding. So, given the time of year and what we know about many of your plans for the rest of the season, we’ll be giving some extra ‘structure’ to the pattern of our group rides during the week. Page 2 gives you a flavour for how our organised sessions will work out.

And if some of you are joining us specifically to kick-start your preparations towards riding-goals later in the season, then you may be interested in tapping into the expertise and advice of our guest coach, Pete Giddings, during your stay. There’s a taster of some of the support & help which Pete can offer on Page 3.

Be sure to get a bit of riding done so you’re raring to go when you arrive in Alicante on the 19th!

Daily Rides

Vuelta A Espana - Stage 9

Mon

Every Pro knows that consistency in training brings the greatest gains, but that approach works for us ‘mere mortals’ too.

Those of you who choose to ride our group rides will enjoy sessions of between 2.5 and 5 hours each day. We’ll balance a progression in intensity with the rest & recovery you need to get the most out of each ride.

By varying the length and profile of each day’s route, those of you who would like to can make the biggest gains possible during your week.

As we are lucky enough to be staying almost right on the route of Stage 9 of the 2010 Vuelta, it would be rude not to preview the suffering on offer for the pros later in the year. Since we’re riding ‘pre/early season’ rather than with 8 months of racing in our legs, we’ll be doing the stage in two parts:

Monday - Ride to the stage start in Calpe, then down the coast to Denia before tackling the Cat 2 Col De Rates - 105km .

Thursday – An ‘assault’ on 5 categorised climbs through some imposing mountainous terrain - 110km (2500m climbing).
