I-95 Abutment Wall Cracks
Completely Filled and Verified
PermeJecttm
July, 2013
Ft Belvoir, VA When Shirley Contracting developed
cracks in a new cast-in-place concrete retaining wall, only
Tecvac, Inc. was willing to offer a full depth repair which would
satisfy Virginia DOT and Federal Highway Administration; a solid
internal repair and a clean finished appearance.
While the wall itself was imposing at 23’ high and almost
5’ thick, the cracks only measured from .1mm to .23mm on the
surface. It was not certain if some of the cracks went all the way
through the member. Tecvac, Inc. completely filled the cracks
and, to the delight of all the parties, the PermeJecttm Process, set-
up with a translucent sealing material, allowed the onlookers to
visually observe the repair resin quickly move along the fracture
line and through the entire thickness of the wall. Upon
completion, the repairs left little evidence on the surface.
The Tecvac Vacuum Processes quickly fills even the
finest cracks; they actually seek out unseen-interconnecting
cracks and voids within the matrix of the concrete members.

RIDOT Selects Tecvac To Seal
and Repair Cracked I-195
Bridge Piers and Pier Caps
June 1, 2013
Providence, RI Tecvac, Inc. has competed vacuum
permeation repairs and sealing of concrete bridge columns and
pier caps on I-195 for Rhode Island DOT.
In choosing Tecvac, Inc. to perform the remediation,
RIDOT examined the ability of the Tecvac Processes to fill even
the finest cracks and to actually seek out unseen-interconnecting
cracks within the matrix of the concrete members.
Small cracks were located, mostly in the top parts of the
piers, and were no form of threat to the structural integrity of the
member. However, the severe weather conditions of the region
were a certain warranty the insignificant cracks would entrap
moisture which would lead to more problems in the coming years.
For quality assurance, Tecvac technicians performed a
before and after assessment of the cracking with Impact-Echo
and a proprietary set-up using vacuum to ascertain the cracks did
not continue through the entire member. Using a combination of
Tecvac’s exclusive PermeJecttm and PermeNewaltm Impermeation
Processes, technicians completely filled the cracks.

Cracked Support Beams and
Columns Restored – Concrete
Strength Increased by 31%
August 1, 2012
Houston, TX Tecvac, Inc. has competed vacuum
permeation repairs to concrete beams, columns and fascia
panels at a sprawling parking garage in Houston, Texas.
Some of the support beams in the structure were
confirmed to suffer from Alkali Silica Reaction and had cracked
and deteriorated to a point of requiring the installation of safety
shoring. Using a combination of Tecvac’s exclusive PermeJecttm
and PermeNewaltm Impermeation Processes, technicians brought
the members back into composite. Independent core testing
confirmed the beams total structural restoration and increase in
strength before the shoring was removed and the members put
back in service.
A host of columns were also treated. Deteriorated and
cracked precast fascia panels were sometimes treated with
Tecvac’s imbedded stitching process prior to the vacuum
process. This method of installing and imbedding stainless steel
pins along the fracture line assured the durability and longevity of
the finished repair to the larger fractures.

Tecvac, Inc. Repairs Concrete
On Historic Centerway
Bridge In Corning, NY
August 1, 2013
Corning, NY Tecvac, Inc. has competed vacuum
permeation repairs to historic concrete piers on the Centerway
Bridge in Corning, NY. Selected by the Engineers, Fisher
Associates, Tecvac’s PermeJecttm Vacuum Permeation Process
filled cracks in the 92 year old concrete not visible during the
inspection survey.
Completed in 1921, the Centerway Bridge was so
damaged by a flood in 1972 it was deemed unsafe for automobile
traffic; it has since been used as a pedestrian bridge. The present
restoration will yield plenty of green space, park benches and
new lighting while maintaining the historic fabric.
Essential to the long term durability of the restoration,
Fisher selected Tecvac’s vacuum permeation process to assure
the total structural restoration of the archway sub-structure
support members. While the fractures were carefully identified
and mapped by Fisher, Tecvac’s vacuum process and ultra thin
repair resin went on to find and fill cracks so fine, they could not
be seen through visual inspection.
