The Latin American holdings of the Newberry Library emphasize the discovery, exploration, colonization,

and early political and social developments of Middle and South America. Special strengths include 16th to

18th century colonial and Jesuit history of Mexico, Peru, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, and Venezuela. Latin
