    Chapter 28

    To Kill a Mockingbird Dramatic events of the climatic chapter 28Characters: involved in ch. 28

    Scout- the narrator of the story, only 7

    years old and is getting ready for a play. She

    is playing a hamhock.

    Jem- Narrators brother, 12 years old,

    something important happens to him in

    this chapter.

    Cecil Jacobs- A student from school, also in

    the play. He plays a cow.

    Ms. Merriweather- The teacher to both

    Cecil and Scout, and also runs the play.

    Themes:

    -Always be prepared.

    -People arent always as they seem

    -Miracles can happen

    -Aunt Alexandra is becoming more

    understanding of the circumstances of

    Atticus children.

    Extra- Who is lying on the ground under the big oak tree. And what is stuck in

    him/her.________________________

    Scout is dressed as a ham hock for the

    school play. Jem takes her because

    Aunty is doing needlework and Atticus

    was tired and reading. While walkingtowards the school as the evening gets

    darker, they walk by the oak tree and

    both of them get scared by Cecil

    Jacobs, a student from school. Cecil

    joins them and the three kids make it

    to the school. Jem leaves Scout with

    Cecil to go with kids his own age,

    (another sign of Jems growing up) andplays. Scout and Cecil play games with

    the thirty cents to play six games.

    After awhile its time for the play to

    start, by during the middle of it Scout

    falls asleep, missing her cue. Towards

    the end of the play she gets scolded by

    Mrs. Merriweather. Scout is too

    embarrassed and makes Jem staylonger until all the people leave. **

    As they get closer to home, they get

    attack by a mystery man. But they are

    also soon saved by another man, who

    at the end of the chapter carries him

    back home with scout following close

    behind.
