LATS Introduction

LATS Multi V Model Selection Program

System Requirements for LATS

LATS (LG Air Conditioner Technical Solution) program is a total design solution for LG system air conditioners. It consists of load calculation program and model selection program for system air conditioners. Load calculation program and model selection program can be selectively used. Although users use different load calculation program other than LATS, they can use LATS model selection program.

Note : System air conditioners mean the devices that can operate multiple indoor units

with one outdoor unit. It is referred as system air conditioners or multi v air

conditioners. Each indoor unit can be operated separately and independently.

Note : LG provides various technical data like products, architecture information,

maintenance information, etc by the homepage, www.lgeaircon.com. LATS programs and user guides are automatically updated on this site.

LATS Multi V Model Selection program selects the specific model for system air conditioners. It can select products, pipe arrangements, electric design by using AutoCAD. This program is classified as Tree Mode and Cad Mode. For simple piping work, Tree Mode is used. Users can select models even they do not have CAD drawings for building, because they have Tree Mode in a program.

Note : LATS provides auto update feature. When users start LATS program, an auto

update notification message appears to guide you a new version of a program.

Introduction

Installation

Usage Description

LATS Multi V Model Selection program can be operated in two types of modes. Tree Mode is displayed as a tree form, for a simple piping work. When there is no CAD drawing for a building, this program can provide the proper quantity of indoor/outdoor air conditioners, cutoff, additional refrigerant amounts, etc. However, sometimes users should rearrange the drawing to be transformed by CAD. To do so, users should manage the drawing work on CAD Mode at first.

1. Create Project

Enter the location information and design condition. Psychrometric chart automatically calculates a dry bulb temperature, wet bulb temperature, and relative humidity of current air. Then load information related to cooling and heating is entered. If users have already used LATS Load program, the result value can be simply loaded by a button. It there is no result, users can manually insert the cooling and heating load as a KW unit.

2. Select Model

Outdoor unit automatically sets its entire heat load value. Proper indoor units for each room can be selected by dragging indoor icon or double clicking the box. After indoor air conditioners are chosen, outdoor air conditioners can be chosen by double clicking the outdoor unit icon. Basically, Auto Select Mode is recommended for this.

Caution:

Drawings that were managed at CAD Mode at first can be transformed into Tree Mode. However, the drawings that were managed at Tree Mode at first cannot be transformed into CAD Mode. In this case, users should select new CAD Mode to design the piping work. The file that is designed at CAD Mode can be outputted as .dxf file. It can be opend and edited in AutoCAD.

3. Modify the length of pipe arrangement

Users should modify the default length of pipe into an actual length. Users can directly insert the length by double clicking the line. Elbow or curve line should be considered. Combination rate and total length can be checked at any time during the design. After this work is completed, Auto Piping button should be clicked. A meesage that tells the success of auto selection feature appears.

The size of pipe and model name of branch are automatically decided based on EPDB (Engineering Product Data Book) data that http://www.lgeaircon.com provides. EPDB is a PDF file that contains the specification information, piping information, etc of products.

4. Check System

Click System Check button to check the entire system including model selection, piping work, validation, cooling/heating simulation, etc. Schematic Diagram provides the wire connection picture of indoor/outdoor air conditioners. The quantity of an additional refrigerants that users should install according to the quantity and information for cutoff devices on electric leakage is calculated automatically.

5. Write the report

The result is outputted as a Microsoft Excel file. Comments, customer information, title, table of contents, system selection, product lists, piping drawings, wire connection picture, etc are covered. For a written estimate, the product price and installation cost can be inserted by vendors.

Note:

Tree Mode is based on a system, while CAD Mode is based on a floor. One system matches with one outdoor unit. Tree mode has one outdoor unit and its related hierarchy.

From this window, you can start selecting outdoor units, indoor units, branch pipes and header pipes according to our design. Initial window for Multi V program looks like this.

1. Double click on stand-by box. Then this window appears. Choose the type of equipments that you want and click

OK.

Following is a description for these types.

Menu Description

Indoor Units Indoor Units

Y branch This equipment is used for large volume of systems. Pipe can have two brances. Numbers are set before a specific model name is assigned. Specific model is assigned after auto piping.

4 header Pipe has 4 branches.

7 header Pipe has 7 branches.

10 header Pipe has 10 branches. Header is rarely used because of the difficulty in installation. This is used for small volume system.

2. If you choose Indoor Unit, this window appears to view the detailed information. Then click

OK.

Following is an example of choosing an indoor unit and 4 header.

■ Step 2. Select Model

1. If you want to change pipe length, double click pipe length value. This window

appear. Change pipe length as you want. Pipe length should be the equivalent length.

You have to check system property window which is notified at the next window. (Combination, total pipe length)

2. Click Auto Piping button at the left part of initial window, to select Y branch, Header and pipe diameter automatically.

Firstly, pipe’s diameter will be decided according to pipe length that is after 1st branch and capadity of indoor units, and then Auto piping will select a appreciate branch models or Header models

More detailed information, limitation and rules are documented in PDB.

3. This window appears to confirm your selection. Click OK.

If any problem is not occurred, All branch and header models are selected automatically. If Y branch or Header do not exists, you have to change pipe design or check branch or header in PDB

■ Step 3. Modify the length of pipe arrangement

1. Click System Check to simulate the system. System Check supports

validation check and performance simulation.

Menu Description

Validation check It checks total piping length, the longest pipe length after 1st branch, each pipe length and all validation in PDB. It checks the combination ratio, which should be within 50 ~ 130%. The indoor unit and outdoor unit should be maximum 130 percentage. (if Model type is PLUS II, Any model can be combinated by 200%)

(PLUS I) If the position of outdoor unit is higher than indoor unit, it can be maximum 40 meters. For the opposite case, it should be 50 meters.

(PLUS II) If the position of outdoor unit is higher than indoor unit, it can be maximum 100 meters. For the opposite case, it should be 100 meters.

More detailed information, limitation and rules are documented in EPDB.

Performance simulation It simulates system’s performance from combination, design condition, pipe length and defrosting factor.

Each indoor unit capacity is simulated and changed. After system is checked, this window appears. Click OK.

Caution:

* We can guarantee the operatoin only within 130% Combination. (PLUS II Models only)

If you want to connect more than 130% combination, please contact us and discuss the requirement like below.

1) If the operation of indoor unit is more than 130%, low airflow operation is recommended in all the indoor units.

2) If the operation of indoor unit is more than 130%, additional refrigerant is needed according to the headquarter guidance.

■ Step 4. Check System

SI/IP:

For heat load calculation unit, LATS includes SI, which is an international standard and IP, which is an English standard. US and middle east use IP while Europe uses SI. Some countries use IP for quantity and SI for length. This kind of mixed usage is also possible.

Simulation Mode:

Users select Cooling mode to make their projects based on cooling operation. In this case, the usage is focused on cooling. Users select Heating mode to make their project based on heating operation. In this case, the usage is focused on heating.

Outdoor Unit Type

Users can decide the outdoor unit type that they want from the drop down button.

Detailed Comments for the project

Users enter their detailed comments on this blank. Users check the checkbox of Use CAD to use CAD Mode.

Caution:

Be sure to active Use CAD option if you are using CAD drawing for model selection. To Use Tree mode, do not check it.

Note :

<Tree mode> <CAD mode>

Tree mode shows the design as a tree shape.

Cad mode shows the design on an existing CAD drawuing.

Output can be transformed as a DXF file and opened at Auto CAD to be editted.
