Notable Program Efforts

• Created and coordinated Gleaux 4-Health 5K race and fun run for 130 participants that encouraged families to increase minutes of physical activity per week. The intention of the 5K and Fun Run was to connect what was taught at 4-H club meetings to a real world application where youth could participate with their families.

• Planned and organized a community health fair expo that reached 76 youth and 54 adults with 20 vendor booths, an educational kid’s area, and 6 demonstrations/presentations regarding healthy living.

• Awarded Fit for the Future Healthy Living grants (2011 and 2014) in the amount of $12,000. • Planned and organized a Healthy Living “Meet Up, Tweet Up”, utilizing social media to promote

various locations where youth and adults could meet and participate in healthy living activities with over 80 participants.

• Created an “amazing race” contest where youth worked in teams to solve clues and complete challenge to teach them about their local community with 195 youth participants in 4 years.

• Established a mentoring service-learning project with a rural 7th grade health class. • Coordinated character education training for 150 8th graders.

Outcome Significance in Extension Programming

• Increased teen leadership club membership by 81.1% from 2011-2014. • Reached a total of 220,305 people on 4-H Facebook page and posted 1,643 times in three years. • Wellness Bingo Challenge resulted in 1,020 healthy choices being self-reported by youth

participants from February 2015-April 2015. • According to the 2015 4-H Common Measures Healthy Living assessment given to 350 4th-7th

grade 4-H club members, the following was reported as a result of participating in a 4-H healthy living program: o 95% of respondents strongly agreed and agreed that they learned the foods that they

should eat everyday (M=3.48). o 95% of respondents strongly agreed and agreed that they learned how to make healthy

food choices as a result of their participation in the 4-H healthy living program. o 93% agreed that being active is fun and being active is good for them; while 92%

reported that physical activity will help them stay fit. • I performed an informal study by collecting statements from the 2013-2014 4-H portfolios that

were turned in for judging. I am using some of the quotes collected to show outcome significance in the words of the 4-H members in the program: o “I learned that exercising is good for your bones and muscles.” 3rd grader o “I learned that you need 60 minutes of exercise.” 3rd grader

o “Eating healthy leads to a smart head, with a huge heart, and open hands to live a happy life.” 3rd grader

o “The thing I like most is learning to make healthy choices.” 3rd grader o “I learned exercise helps you stay fit and healthy and you can do more. Eating right can

keep you from getting sick as much.” 5th grader
