SCHOOL CROSSINGS
Please increase your awareness of student, staff and carer safety around the school at
both drop off and pick up times.
Students should be encouraged to use the supervised school crossing when crossing
Hague Street or Urana Road, to meet their parents.
Please do not call your child across the road at other areas, as this creates significant risk
of harm for all concerned.
A message from our Principal…
Good afternoon everyone,
…and just like that Week 7 is in the books! What an action packed year we are having!
Student reports are being compiled at the moment. I look forward to reading them all over the next
two weeks. Reports are a representation of learning and teaching for 20 weeks of school. I really
encourage you to read the report and have discussions with your child’s classroom teacher about
their progress. Above all, I would direct you to the ‘effort’ grade. We can all achieve our own
personal best, once we apply ourselves with our best effort. This is what I’ll be focusing on with my
three children, across all aspects of their school life.
There is an increasing number of students arriving to school before 8:30am. Active supervision of
children on site begins at 8:30am. While attendance at school is critical, if you need your child to be
at school prior to 8:30am, I encourage you to utilise our before school care.
are here before 7am in the morning, with sessions from as little as $3.50. Check it out.
Lastly, our staff carpark is becoming a little like Central Station! We have many services who require
to use the disabled parking spaces and loading zones. The staff carpark isn’t an area to drop
students off in the morning, it is a high traffic area. Please continue to use drop off and pick up zones
at the front of the school, or utilise the side streets and access our delightful
crossing staff.

Week 8
Walk on paths
and hard
surfaces
See you all soon,
Brett
We look forward to
working with Leanne of
Carevan to support
our families.
Lavington Public
School is on board to
help out wherever we
can and there is a
great deal of
possibilities with this
service!
On the 23 and 24 May 2019, nine ATSI kids went to a Wiradjuri Language and
Culture Camp at Borambola.
When we arrived we were involved in a smoking ceremony - we had to collect
gum leaves and branches by asking the trees, we were brushed down by elders
and walked through the smoke.
We would like to thank Mel Walkerden for driving the bus, Kandeer SSP for
lending us the bus. Jannali was our mascot and we all loved cuddling her. We
would like to also thank Mrs Berndt for taking us.
We learn to count to 10 in Wiradjuri Language, make an axe, paint a mural,
weaving a rope or necklace, drawing your own land and present it to everyone
and looked at weapons with an elder.
By Phoenix, Kaiden, Bella, Miah, Noah, Ashton, Hayley, Breanna and Hayley.
SCHOOL SPORT
NSWPSSA Championships
As a Lavington Public School community we
would like to wish Ellie Lyons (Girls
Basketball) and Adrian Thapa (Open Rugby
League) all the best in their upcoming
carnivals.
Adrian is off to Sydney in Week 9, whereas
Ellie has the home court advantage as she
plays at Lauren Jackson Stadium, next
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. These
carnivals will no doubt be a highlight for
both Adrian and Ellie.
If you are an avid basketball fan, or just
someone interested in watching high
standard sport, head down and support
one of our students and our regional team
as they play against the best players from
across New South Wales.
Riverina Touch Football
Congratulations to Ella Semple who was selected in the girls Riverina Touch Football
team.
Ella and her team head off to sunny Mudgee next term for the NSWPSSA
championship.
This is a fantastic effort from Ella who will certainly be a key member of the team.
Well done Ella!
Albury Zone Athletics Champions
Congratulations to Adrian Thapa
(Senior Boys) and Ellie Lyons (11yrs
Girls) for both being crowned age
champions of the Albury Zone
Athletics carnival. This was the two-part
athletics event held recently at the Les
O’Brien Athletics precinct.
Adrian and Ellie will be presented with
their medals at tomorrow’s school
assembly.
The individual track and field results
from the carnival haven’t been sent
through yet, but we are expecting a
number of LPS athletes will be
attending the Riverina Carnival next
term.
Riverina Cross Country
Jordan Morris, Amelia Clark, Tarni Evett
and Finn McDonnell competed in the
Riverina Cross Country event in
Gundagai today.
Muddy shoes may have been the order
of the day for these talented long
distance runners.
We look forward to hearing about their
efforts when they return to school.
Albury Zone
Softball trials
Finn McDonnell and Ella Sem-
ple will be representing our
school at the upcoming boys
and girls Softball trials.
We would like to wish them
all the best for this trial.
