Multi-Camera Integrated Digital Acquisition System

The new ECODAS is designed as a minimal acquisition system that allows the successful collection of oblique photography at a fraction of the cost of any other system.

In other words, the ECODAS has all the

MIDAS features that are indispensable

to perform an oblique mapping project,

but it does not have the fancy bells and

whistles which our more advanced

MIDAS has. This is a fully manual system

contrary to the MIDAS system which is

fully automated.

Most importantly, there are no shortcuts. The ECODAS system has all the basic functionalities which have made the MIDAS a winning system.

Ruggedized Camera-lens attachments, Prime Zeiss lenses, the Track’Air Flight Management system and a separate

Pilot Display are still included in the system. The system will show the Nadir camera view in real-time so the included custom exposure control can be used to adjust the exposures in flight. Most importantly the microsecond accurate logging of each camera Mid Exposure Pulse (MEP) times is recorded for accurate post processing.

The ECODAS allows you to take advantage of all the know-how and procedures that were devel-oped for the MIDAS at a fraction of the cost of the MIDAS.

The system is constructed with our Nikon D810 Surveyor cameras, specially modified by Lead’Air to strengthen the attachment of the lens to the body and permanently stabilize the internal camera geometry. The cameras are mounted in a rigid aluminum array structure specially designed to insure easy access to the memory card used to save the imagery.

The exceptional capture speed of the D810 Surveyor camera provides RAW images every 0.9 seconds or JPG images every 0.5 seconds allowing faster speeds during the acquisition.

Multi-Camera Integrated Digital Acquisition System

The MIDAS Acquisition System has been in use worldwide since 2004 and boasts over 100 systems delivered to date. These systems account for millions of professionally produced images yearly and their reliability is well documented. The ECODAS is based on the same technology that has made the MIDAS the most popular Oblique Image Capture system in the world.

The ECODAS is configured with the same lenses that are suitable for low altitude acquisition for high quality imagery. Several pairings of lenses are available.

From the rigid construction of the Cam-Lens mounting hardware, ruggedized camera mounting array, to the integrated control rack assembly and operating system, the ECODAS is completely designed, produced, quality controlled and quality tested in our manufacturing facilities at the Kissimmee Airport in Florida.

Our systems are unsurpassed in image capture rate, shutter longevity and the all important “overall cost per click”. With shutters that routinely capture over 500,000 images per camera and are easily replaceable, our clients are thrilled with their ability to capture an entire heavy season of imagery without the need of replacement shutters.

ECODAS saves the imagery directly on a card in the body of the camera. The present capacity of memory cards is sufficient to fly an entire day and collect thousands of photos. 250 Gb or even 500 Gb cards will allow the cameras to be fired all day without the need to change card during flight. Once on the ground the cards are removed from their respective camera bodies and inserted in a backup station which is part of the system.

GSD TABLES for different lenses and altitudes demonstrate the flexibility of the MIDAS systems. Using today’s highest resolution sensors (up to 50MPx in the full-frame, 24x36mm form factor) and the broad array of lenses available, it is possible to achieve outstanding resolution and productivity for every job.

On-Track Drift Mount

Proper drift positioning is essential to the processing of vertically captured imagery for the positioning, rectification or ortho-rectification of data.

The drift for the ECODAS is controlled by our ON-Track Drift Mount which is essentially an electromechanical system intended for manual drift correction. The drift angle can be derived from streaming data from an IMU, digital compass or other heading input (GPS alone doesn't provide heading unless you have a dual antenna system). If you are using our FMS, the streaming data from an IMU, digital compass or other input, fundamental for capturing and processing airborne sensor data, can graphically be displayed on the screen of the

X-Track software

during the acquisition flight.

Ideal Drift Positioning

is attained by controlling the unit manually with the easy left-right switch included with the system.

The leveling screws allow the user to lower and level the mount so as to be as low as possible above the airplane hole. The sensor can take advantage of the full range of correction (+/-30) degrees of drift if the sensor can view the entire footprint without seeing the edges of the hole.

ON-Track Drift Camera

The Drift Video Camera System is provided as a means of visually correcting for the drift of the aircraft as it crabs down the line.

The Drift cam comes with a power cord that can be plugged into any 12-24 volt power source.

Customized Metric Mapping Cameras

Instead of building the system with very costly medium format cameras, Lead’Air uses less expensive off the shelf, full frame, top of the line DSLR bodies from Nikon or Canon. These camera bodies are reengineered and rebuilt in our own manufacturing facilities. They are reassembled using the best available lenses into true metric mapping cameras which are each delivered with an official calibration certificate.

Powerful Computer Control Center

The ECODAS is controlled by the ECODAS Computer and takes advantage of the years of development creating the best known oblique imaging system in the world.

The Computer Control Center contains all the necessary controls for each camera, Navigation interface, and all power functions for the system.

Even the most robust systems occasionally need maintenance. The modular unit allows for operator maintenance in the field with replacement modules overnighted when needed.

New Automated Flight Planning for MIDAS or ECODAS

With our newly designed snapPLAN flight planning system, the operator is assured of complete coverage with our automated methodology. The system automatically creates flight plans and modifies the number of flight lines to ensure the areas are completely photographed from all 4 angles as well as the vertical view. Options are available for our MIDAS system as well

as the Vexcel Osprey oblique system.

Simplified Planning Parameters

Changing the parameters of your flight plan is easier than ever. After selecting or creating your proper lens combination just enter your preferred Pixel size, endlap and sidelap and then create your normal vertical flight plan.

New Automated Flight Planning System

Planning and Optimization

With our newly designed planning, creating and verifying your coverage could not be easier. After creating your usual vertical flight plan, in the right panel select “create optimized flight plan”.

The program automatically creates the additional lines and extends the existing ones to properly cover the project for the oblique imaging. With the Quick View Show/Hide buttons for each of the directional views the software assures the planner that the project is properly covered.

Shown to the right is the vertical camera view depicting all the image locations required to properly capture the project area

Quick View Coverage Reviews

With our “Quick View” Camera Coverage Display Options the ability to review each camera direction is essential to the assurance that the project plan will properly cover the required area.

Complete your review, add your terrain heights and save your completed flight plan.

With the addition of our sorting tools in snapBASE, the program provides a comprehensive listing of only the images required to create a complete coverage set of imagery.

Powerful Backup Computer Control Station

The amount of data captured per day can be substantial and because each camera saves it’s own data it is important to be able to download the imagery as efficiently as possible. Lead’Air delivers a backup station that automatically and systematically downloads all the data to two of your high speed hard drives to be sent to the office or maintained on sight until the project is complete. Redundant copying is critical in the case of a drive failure.

Complete Automated Download

Plug in the Disks from each camera, answer a few questions in the custom software package and the system will download all the data into it’s own separate folder. the images will be appropriately renamed, and the system will perform a disk verification that all images were downloaded.
