Diversity & Inclusion at a Glance

George V. Powell Diversity ScholarshipWe created the George V. Powell Scholarship to offer financial support to a third-year law student who will contribute meaningfully to the diversity of the Pacific Northwest legal community.

Ron Beard ScholarshipCreated in 2015 in honor of our late partner, Ron Beard, we provide financial assistance and mentoring for a University of Washington law student of color each year

Gregoire FellowsWe’re proud to be a founding sponsor of this innovative program, which provides financial support, mentoring and summer internship to diverse first-year law students. We’re honored to host Fellows each summer in our Seattle office.

Multnomah County Bar FellowsWe proudly support this program, which provides financial support, mentoring and internship opportunities to diverse law students at Lewis & Clark and University of Oregon law schools. We’re honored to host a Fellow each summer.

NW Minority Job FairOver 30 years ago, we helped found this job fair that provides a forum for minority law students and attorneys to connect. Today we remain just as involved.

Minority Bar SponsorshipWe get involved. We put our people and our money where it counts – supporting various affinity and minority bar associations in our communities.

Community OrganizationsWe support the incredible work of our partners in the community dedicated to diversity and inclusion. From groups like the Greater Seattle Business Alliance to Basic Rights Oregon, we invest in our communities.

Community & Bar LeadershipAs leaders and members of national and local bar associations and organizations, our lawyers stay connected with the aim of serving the profession and community.

US Law Firm GroupAs members of the US Law Firm Group, we participate in committees focused on law firm diversity, women lawyers, professional development and recruiting.

Leadership Council for Legal DiversityWe believe that LCLD is at the forefront of the national conversation on diversity in the law. It’s our honor to invest our time and our people in LCLD programs and initiatives. Each year, we sponsor an attorney for LCLD’s Fellows Program and another for the Pathfinders Program. We’re proud to be named a ‘Top Performer’ by the organization.

Women’s InitiativeFrom mentoring to professional and business development programs, we are constantly looking for innovative ways to support the success of our talented women attorneys.

Parent SupportWe provide a generous bonding leave package and a customized coaching program to our new parent attorneys. We work with each individual to ensure their schedule, practice and long-term career plans are supported.

Mansfield RuleWe’re committed to this certification program, which aims to increase the representation of diverse lawyers in leadership roles and partnership at law firms by broadening the pool of candidates considered for such opportunities.

Diversity CommitteeEstablished in 1995, our committee of dedicated attorneys meets regularly to innovate and implement diversity and inclusion programs in a manner that reflects our deep commitment to diversity.

Firm LeadershipIt takes committed leaders to make diversity a true priority. Our leaders make diversity a regular topic of discussion for our Board of Directors, and our Director of Professional Development and Diversity regularly presents to the Board on the firm’s diversity and inclusion efforts.

Bridge the GapOur diversity & inclusion group meets to learn from each other about our experiences at Lane Powell and in the world. Our motto is that we can be the change we want to see at the firm by creating dialogue, listening closely and supporting one another.

EducationWe sponsor firm-wide learning experiences that connect the entire firm to build inclusivity. Recent topics include the science of implicit bias, multi-generational differences in the workplace, respect in the workplace, and gender expression and identity.
