Leadership Huntingdon County
Leadership Huntingdon County is designed to stimulate positive community change through leadership training; training that will identify, involve, educate and motivate leaders. The program prepares committed and qualified individuals to assume leadership roles, and further enhances the abilities of existing leaders, while exploring critical issues facing Huntingdon County. The leadership program is designed to stimulate a commitment and responsibility to serve, which will strengthen our communities and enhance the quality of life in Huntingdon County. This leadership program includes a variety of educational approaches, including lecture, debate, case studies, skill building, "hands-on" experience, teamwork, site visits, fact finding, and problem solving for issues facing our community. Issues that are examined include community heritage, local government, tourism, transportation, economic development, health care, human services, arts, and education. Members of each leadership class are expected to participate in the development and execution of a community service project. Class members commit to participation in a nine month leadership program consisting of one Saturday retreat, eight Thursday evening classes, and two Saturday field trips. A Kickoff Reception in September, and a Graduation Banquet in May round out the program. Leadership Huntingdon County is operated by a nine member Leadership Steering Committee. Current Steering Committee members are: Debra Gregory, Chairperson; Richard Stahl, Secretary/Treasurer; Heather Dubbs; Michael Dudley; Helen Pyzowski; Connie Kough Pittenger; Donna Marcotte; and Julie Price. Planning for Leadership Huntingdon County began in 2002, when the need to develop and strengthen community leadership became a goal of several organizations, including the Huntingdon County Partnership for Economic Progress, also known as PEP, the Huntingdon County Chamber of Commerce, and Penn State Cooperative Extension.
