A small

note

Since the inception of the world, man was struck by

this thought, "Why are there so many poor, suffering,

ill and unhappy people around?”

Fortunately, Gen Y is both cool and happy about doing

good. Even the money making companies now stress

on raising voice against poverty, inequality and

injustice.

But unfortunately, the world has become just like the

Indian Parliament and ensuring that one’s voice is

heard is no cake walk.

So why do u

need us?

One of the major challenges before NGOs today is to gather

support from people. People are too busy to stop and listen,

too carefree to look at appeals and too impatient to appreciate

street plays- the most common methods to communicate tothe public.

With time and advent of technology, the preferred channels

of communication for public have changed significantly. Also,

India being the country of youth, the strategy and efforts

towards gathering support must be innovative and appealing.

This is where you need us.

How is

marketing for a

NGO different?

# Multiple Constituencies: Unlike goods and services marketing

where the person who pays/contributes gets the benefit of the product or

service, in case of an NGO, the target customer and the beneficiary are

different.

# Non-financial objectives: Unlike goods and services marketing

where the major objective is profit maximization, many a time the

objective of marketing for an NGO is not generating revenues only but

also demanding support in form of time, attention and efforts.

# Services and social behavior rather than physical goods:Sometimes, NGOs run campaigns like anti-smoking or anti-drugs drive

which do not aim to make people buy something but to make a bigger

impact on people so as to make them do something.

How is

marketing for a

NGO different?

# Public Scrutiny: Unlike for profit businesses, NGOs are

closer to the people and have certain expectations to be met, so

NGOs must be extra careful while choosing their marketing tools.

# Conflicting interests: Many a times, NGOs take initiatives to

bring a change in the society. It is not an easy task as it may involve

conflict of interests between the customers and the NGO.
