Church Services will resume June 6 & 7!
Meetings and classes are suspended until
further notice. Please contact the church
office for any questions or needs.
Our Hope Remains in Jesus!
These protocols will start June 6 and 7, 2020.
Re-evaluation will happen each weekend after.
Safety First
• Your safety is of primary concern. If you are not comfortable returning at this time, we will be live
streaming one of the services so you can be a part of worship with your church family.
• No one should feel obligated to come to worship. If you are not comfortable doing so, you are
encouraged and advised to stay home.
• If you are planning to attend worship and feel ill or have any symptoms that might be indicative
of COVID-19, please stay home for the safety of all.
• No one is sinning if they feel unable or unwilling to come to church.
• This plan was developed in good faith. We know that not everyone will be in agreement with all
aspects of this plan. We ask for your patience. grace and that you put the best construction on
everything.
Worship Service
• Worship service times will be changing beginning June 6-7, 2020. This is not permanent – re-
evaluation will happen each weekend. Our worship schedule will be 5:00 p.m. on Saturday
evening and 8:00 a.m., 9:30 a.m., and 11:00 a.m. on Sundays.
• Services will be approximately 45 minutes in length.
• The maximum number of worshipers in any service will be 50. This is per the order of the Gover-
nor of Nevada.
• Registration for the service of your choice will be done online with a program called Sign Up Ge-
nius. Directions for this will be coming early next week. When capacity is filled for the service of
your choice, you are encouraged to sign up for one of the other services. Anyone who is unable
to use this online tool may call the church office at (702) 645-4998 to register.
• The worship services will contain all the elements of our worship but will follow a thematic em-
phasis, following the Scripture lesson for the day.
• Each of the services will be the same: the same lesson, the same songs, the same liturgy.
• There will be a short children’s message for children but they will stay in their pews.
Holy Communion
• Holy Communion will be offered at every service.
• Communion will be prepared with gloves and mask worn.
• Pastors and communion assistants will sanitize hands before communion distribution and will
wear masks and gloves.
• Communion will be done in a continuous fashion, keeping 6 feet apart between families/
individuals as you come forward.
• The communion cup (chalice) will not be used. Individual cups will be spaced apart in sanitized
communion trays to avoid accidental touching of other cups.
Holy Communion continued . .
• The individual cups will be placed in a disposable collection point that will be thrown away after
every service. There will be no children holding the baskets. .
• The pastors will make every effort not to touch hands as the Bread is placed in your out-
stretched palm.
• Pastor “floats” his hand above the head of those receiving a blessing/not taking communion
Sanctuary Protocol
• There will be no greeters. Instead they will be opening the doors for those who are coming to
worship
• There will be no hand shaking/passing of peace and personal touch to prevent the sharing of
any illness.
• No offering plates will be passed. Instead there will be an offering plate in the entrance of the
sanctuary that you can leave your tithe in before or after worship as you leave.
• You are encouraged to wear a mask as you enter the church building. After you have sanitized
your hands, received your bulletin (if you chose to have one) and have sat in your place of wor-
ship, you may take your mask off if you so desire. (The use of masks prevents individuals who
may be contagious, even without symptoms, from infecting others.)
• Doors will be propped open so that people do not have touch surfaces unnecessarily.
• When you sit down for worship, you will notice that there will always be a vacant pew that is set
aside to create a 6-foot social distance between you and other worshippers. As you sit, please
make certain that families may sit together but for others there should always be a 6-foot social
distance between you and other worshipers.
• When it comes time to leave the building, please put on your mask and keep the 6-foot social
distance between you and others who are leaving. You are also encouraged to use hand sani-
tizers before you leave the church building.
• Pews will be disinfected before, between, and after the worship services.
Please also be aware
• Restrooms will be available, but you are strongly encouraged to use home bathrooms before
coming to church.
• There will not be a fellowship time. No coffee or treats will be served.
• Sunday Bible studies are on hold. (For other Bible studies, please contact Pastor Mike.)
• The childcare room will not be open.
• You are encouraged to use the main door only (the front door) to enter and to leave the sanctu-
ary.

Running the Race of Faith “I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7
Before the modern Olympics, there was something called the Panhellenic Games. Composed of four sporting festivals, the Pan-
hellenic Games were like the Super Bowl, the Final Four, and the Stanley Cup all rolled into one. Contestants engaged in chariot racing,
wrestling, boxing, poetry contests, and run-ning events.
Footraces were central to the games
and ranged in length from mere meters to many miles. Most of the races were held in a stadium – the ancient precursor to modern day stadiums. Some events had competitors sprinting once around
length of the stadium; others had competitors completing more than twenty laps. Regardless of the distance, the key to victory was pac-
ing oneself correctly for the specific race.
As Paul approached the end of his life, he looked back over everything that had happened to him. Reflecting on it, he wrote to
Timothy, his young understudy:
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. (2 Timothy 4:7)
As he pens these words, Paul draws on images from athlet-ics. Life in Christ, as Paul knew, well, it is not a sprint once around a
stadium; life in Christ is a marathon of many miles, many years.
Running the race of faith, however, is not exactly like the Panhellenic Games. Life in Christ is not about public recognition or
winning laurel wreaths as trophies. It’s about something bigger than personal success. Fighting the good fight, finishing the race, and keeping the faith is about God building His kingdom through you.
For Paul, running the race of faith meant traveling many miles to spread the Gospel. It meant preaching in synagogues throughout the Roman Empire and teaching the faith to new Christ-
followers.
For you, running the race of faith might look totally different. It may mean putting on a tie and being a godly man on the job. It
might mean groggy mornings, waking up long before anyone else to provide for your family. It might involve something monumental that seems small, like gathering your children on your lap for prayer.
None of these seem like heroic victories. They are nonethe-less victories – kingdom victories. And you get to help with them as you walk with God by faith.
Prayer starter: Holy Spirit, forgive my self-focus and
Strengthen me to run the race of faith…
See you in worship this weekend! Pastor Mike
Pastor Mike Scholz
Psalm 121:7,8
“The Lord will protect you
from all danger; he will keep you
safe. He will protect you as you
come and go now and forever…”
Here’s an interesting, yet
very unknown fact that’s flourishing
today. I bet you weren’t aware of
this, but, the private-bodyguard
business is booming in today’s
world. The rich and famous hire
these people to protect them from being mobbed,
attacked, robbed, adored, kidnapped and killed…
Bodyguards are equipped to protect their employ-
ees from any and every danger that life can hold.
Well, guess what! Every Christian has his or
her own private bodyguard, and it doesn’t cost us a
penny. The Psalmist tells us that we will be protect-
ed from all danger, not just some dangers. And add-
ed to that protection is the knowledge that we will be
kept safe. God’s security system for the believer is
the finest available today.
David goes one step further with God’s prom-
ise to us. He lets us know that God’s protection sys-
tem is in operation twenty-four hours a day, seven
days a week. He is with us as we come to and go
from situations. He is with us right now, in the midst
of all of this uncertainty and disruption in our lives,
and He will be with us forever. We are totally sur-
rounded by His protection.
Are you worrying about some of the dangers
you will face today, or later this week? Are you tak-
ing steps to protect yourself or are you willing to let
God do the protecting? You know, if we really, in our
hearts, belong to Him, we are His responsibility.
With God, all is well…

Julie Lutz serves as mission service coordi-
nator in Papua New Guinea, where she works to
strengthen and support the ministry and service of
those in the Synod’s partner church, the Gutnius
(Good News) Lutheran Church, and the LCMS
mission team. Lutz has been serving with the
LCMS in Papua New Guinea since 1986.
Missionary service in Papua New Guinea
(PNG) is a ragged, rough and bold calling — a call-
ing only possible because of the grace of God.
While many missionaries do go to the unreached,
work still remains here to help the nascent church
rise to meet the challenge of a soaring youth popu-
lation. We work with faithful families, pastors, Sun-
day school teachers and Lutheran schools to help
strengthen our partners in Christ in this monumen-
tal task.
A “typical” day — and I chuckle to think
there could be a typical day — begins with the
screeching of hundreds of Rainbow Lorikeets roost-
ing in the eucalyptus tree outside my house on the
grounds of Immanuel Lutheran Hospital. Breakfast
and quiet devotional time might conclude before the
first knock at the door, but likely not. The flow at the
door is sporadic but ongoing: workmen getting their
orders for the day, patients from distant areas who
need attention, students who have questions, pas-
tors seeking encouragement. It is all expected in a
culture where relationships are paramount.
Around the knocks, I carry out the day’s of-
fice work. My office is in our house. My son Anton,
who is also an LCMS missionary, has an office and
workshop in our home as well, though he is fre-
quently engaged in ministry away from home. I have
a variety of projects to work on. Some are adminis-
trative tasks for our mission team, the LCMS and
the PNG government. Other tasks are more focused
on preparing ministry resources.
Missionaries are still needed here in this
“Christian” country. In many parts of Papua New
Guinea, superstitions about sorcerers and witches
who magically kill others are driving extreme vio-
lence against accused men, women and children.
Under God’s protection we have begun to respond,
but more needs to be done. It’s a privilege to be part
of the effort to prepare media and print resources,
workshops, and Bible studies to combat false belief
and strengthen faith in our Almighty God.

Board of Directors Report for May 2020
At the regular meeting of the LOG Board of
Directors held May 19, 2020 the following items
were discussed and the following actions taken:
• Dave Fischer, Treasurer, presented the pro-
posed 2020/21 Budget. After questions and
discussion, the Board voted to approve the
draft for presentation at the Voters’ Assembly
meeting to be held on Sunday, June 14.
• The Board approved moving LOG’s deposit
accounts to Nevada State Bank (NSB) from
Wells Fargo Bank. NSB was the bank that
accepted LOG’s application and ultimately
made the loan for $358,100 under the CARES
SBA PPP loan program.
• The Board discussed the manner in which the
June 14 Voters’ Assembly meeting would be
held. The preference is a live meeting at the
church. However, that will be subject to state
restrictions on public gatherings. If necessary,
online voting or a combination of live and
online voting could be used.
• The Board approved the formation of a
“Church Reopening Team.” It will consist of
two Board members and two Lay Ministers.
Pastor Mike will lead the team.
The financial report for April showed a net
loss of $23,315, an unfavorable variance from
Budget of $76,112. The net loss was primarily due
to closing of the Preschool. April was the first full
month of closure. In addition, worship offerings for
April were approximately $20,000 lower than Budg-
et presumably due to lack of regular services. The
April net loss brought year-to-date net income to
$150,662, a favorable variance to Budget of
$42,679. Total cash at month end April was
$694,243 and free cash (available to pay bills) was
$543,605. The large increase in cash and free cash
were the result of the SBA PPP loan proceeds of
$358,100 received April 20.
The next regular meeting of the Board will
be held Tuesday, June 16, 2020 at 6:30 p.m.
The Board composition is as follows:
Tom Bathe, President
Bonnie Karch, Vice President
Laura Fischer, Secretary
Dave Fischer, Treasurer
Bo Piepkorn
Gary Braun
Trish Spatharos
Dennis Friday
Note: LOG members are invited to observe regular-
ly scheduled meetings. At the discretion of the
Board, members of the congregation may address
the Board if the President has received a request
with adequate notice prior to the meeting. The Pres-
ident will determine the amount of time allotted to
such a presentation and will inform the congrega-
tional member of that time allotment before the
meeting.
LOG GAME NIGHT - Our next Game
Night for June has been cancelled
due to the Covid-19 virus. We look
forward to the next time that we can
get together. For questions please

PRIME TIMERS PT55s — Due to
the current virus crisis, we are tem-
porarily cancelling our upcoming
scheduled events and meetings. We
will update our schedule as needed
in the foreseeable future.
During the continued “stay home” or
“quarantine” times we are in it has been such a
blessing to be able to be “churched” in our own
homes, thanks to the wonderful “table talk” mes-
sages from our Pastors, along with the children’s
chats, the word in music from
our terrific trio and the regular
updates from Pamela in the
church office. We also truly ap-
preciate the work of all the office
staff in keeping the church going
despite the lack of in-house
church services. And we would
not be reading our newsletter if it
wasn’t for the wonderful work of
Cindy Bowles.
Getting back to our little
study on Creating a Discipleship
Pathway, we now look at the characteristics of the
Discipleship Pathway.
The first characteristic relates to the Gospel.
This pathway begins with the Gospel because the
life of Christ began with the Gospel. It is important
to remember though, that because the pathway
begins with the Gospel, it is something we cannot
leave behind as we move toward maturity in Christ.
The Gospel is not just a starting block, like in a run-
ning race, that propels us on our journey, it is the
And through Christ we:
LEARN Connecting with Jesus through small group Bible studies and other small
group activities LIVE Being like Jesus in our daily lives LOVE Serving other people and sharing
with others.
whole race that we are running. Our lives are to be
driven daily by the cross and the resurrection of
Christ.
Just look at the things that are centered on
the Gospel: Our Bible study, our pursuit of moral
purity, our generosity and our
pathway. In the same way we
have received Christ through the
Gospel, we are to walk in Christ
through the Gospel. We don’t
move past it we grow in our
knowledge of, experience with,
and our application of the Gospel
throughout our whole journey.
From the Lay Ministry
team, please continue to stay
safe, and remember that Jesus
loves you and is there for you
throughout these uncertain times. We look forward
to the day we can all be together again in the
Lord’s house. In the meantime let us focus on the
Gospel in our discipleship pathway.
Let us all work TOGETHER as disciples of the LORD,
CONNECTING with each other and connecting
with CHRIST.
In Christ we who are many form one body and each member belongs to all the others.
We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is proph-
esying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is
teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then
give generously; if it is to lead do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.
(Romans 12:5-8)
In the same way
we have received Christ
through the Gospel,
we are to walk in Christ
through the Gospel.

It is so hard to believe that we have com-
pleted the 2019-2020 school year! It truly seems
that we just started school a few weeks ago and
now it is over. This year has been so full of mem-
ories, from Chat About Your Child to Family
Night, from Trunk-or-Treat to Family Literacy
Night, from Christmas Programs to the transition
to distance learning in March. What a memora-
ble year it has been!
This end of the year has definitely been
unique. We had Preschool families pick up their
students' belongings the week of May 11. It was
wonderful to see the students and their fami-
lies. Many tears were shed as it was confusing
for some of the students.
The elementary is had their pick up days
on Monday and Tuesday, May 18 and 19. K-3
picked up their items in front of the Administra-
tion building and Grades 4-5 had to enter cam-
pus because of their lockers needing to be
cleaned out as well. We took many precautions
to keep everyone safe.
On Wednesday, May 20, the Elementary
school hosted a virtual Field Day. Field Day is a
highlight of the year for the students, so we
thought a virtual one will bring new memories.
Graduation was definitely different this year as
well. On Wednesday, May 20, the Pre-K stu-
dents took part in a graduation parade to mark
their transition to Kindergarten. Our 5th graders
took part in a Zoom graduation on Thursday,
May 21 followed by a parade on campus. Our
final parade for the 2019-2020 school year took
place on Friday, May 22 for all students.
Graduation-
It is a blessing that we have 33 students grad-
uating from Lamb of God! Next year, our
graduates will be attending:
Faith Lutheran (16)
Lied Stem Academy (6)
Saville (2)
Our Lady of Las Vegas (2)
Cadwallader (1)
Coral (1)
Saint Ann (1)

As we close our school year, we must
bid Godspeed to Mrs. McCoy, Mrs. Ashley,
Mrs. Linda, and Miss. McCormick. Thank you
so much for your love and nurturing! We will
miss you.
As you may have heard, I have accept-
ed the call to be principal at St. John’s Luther-
an school in Napa, CA for the 2020-2021
school year. As I reflect on my time here at
Lamb of God, I am truly thankful for each and
everyone of you: teachers, students, parents,
staff, and church members. Thank you for
welcoming me with open arms and for sup-
porting the school so lovingly. As I make this
transition, all I can say is what a blessing it
has been to be a part of Lamb of God!
Faith Lutheran Middle
& High School
The Board met on April 20, 2020 via Zoom.
They will next meet on June 22, 2020. As of this
date there are 1918 students still enrolled. The stu-
dents and teachers have completed finals via Zoom
or through online exams. On May 22, 2020, FLHS
experienced a new way of graduating Seniors. The
Speedway Racetrack permitted us to use their facili-
ty for graduation. The 256 graduating Seniors drove
around the track and pulled up to Dr. Buuck who
handed them their diploma through the window. Un-
fortunately, the Board, Teachers, and guests were
not be able to participate due to social distancing
guidelines and gathering of groups more than 10.
Parents rode along in the vehicle if they chose to.
The process was streamed via social media. For
the 2020-2021 school year, we will be prepared to
have students on campus, online, or a combination
of the two depending on what the Governor says this
summer. Bottom line – we will be ready. This has
been a trying time for all of us at FLHS and we are
praying for normalcy in the next year. What that nor-
malcy will be – I’m not sure anyone can answer that.

The Bookworms That Still Aren’t
We continue to pray that all our Lamb of God friends and your families and friends are doing well during these uncertain times.
With the continued isolation due to the COVID-19 virus our scheduled Bookworms get-together for May also had to be postponed. So now we are looking forward to being able to discuss our last 2 books in June (if we can remember what they were about). Once again it is in the hands of the Lord and our leaders.
So, has this “home stay” had you reading more books? If you have been converted or redirected to being an avid bookworm please consider join-ing our small group. We would love to have more people sharing their thoughts on our selected monthly reads.
Come Join Us!
Come join us on Saturday June 13th (tentative at this stage) at 10:00 a.m. in pastor’s office when we will discuss Sold on a Monday by Kristina McMorris and Rough Justice by Lisa Scottoline. All are welcome to be part of this little group of avid readers who meet once a month to dissect and critique our book of the month. Our selected readings for the next few months are:

voting on Mission Grants, the 2020-2022 Biennium
Budget, the new District Officers and other
measures that require voting will take place in ear-

complish this 2020 PSW District Convention. Yes,

please “save the date” for the Pacific South-
west LWML District Retreat for 2021, sched-
uled for February 19-21, 2021 and for the
LWML National Convention scheduled for June
24 – 27, 2021 in Lexington, Kentucky.
• We are looking forward to the Fall Celebra-
tion of our Desert Red Rock Zone 31/32,
scheduled for October 24, to be hosted by the
ladies of Lamb of God, Las Vegas, NV.
• Note that the Secret LWML Supporters of
the Confirmands will keep them in prayers and
will make plans as we are able to move for-
ward for any special celebration. Our Local
LWML society will remain “dark” for the sum-
mer; however, note the following:
• Crafts Fair and Bake Sale, Saturday, Novem-
ber 7.
• LWML Christmas Party in December, TBD.
Our congregation continues to be blessed
during this period with those reaching out with
prayers. LWML is so grateful during this very trying
time to continue to feel the love and support of our
mites for Mission Grants. Thank you, Lamb of
God, as we look forward to our togetherness again
on the Purple Pail Sundays while “serving the Lord
with gladness.”

Frontliners. Who are the
frontliners? What do they look like?
Are they our military in camos? Our
doctors in scrubs and masks? Our
nurses? Are they our grocery
checkers and stockers in masks?
What about our lab workers, our
warehouse workers and/or our de-
livery drivers? What about those
who continue on a daily basis to
staff our offices of all kinds of es-
sential services? We are asked to
“stay home,” but someone has to be on the front-
line to provide and secure our needs so that we
can “stay at home” and “be safe” as we can be.
Yes, our frontliners are all of the above. So, you
can see the many on the front lines with their
shields of protection fighting for all of us. Many
prayers are offered each day as we reach out to
our Lord Jesus our Heavenly Father, asking for
His ongoing and loving care during this time of
crisis in our lives. He is our ultimate Frontliner,
Who went ahead to “prepare a place for us” and
we must have the faith to know that He has every-
thing under His control.
We have had to cancel many loving LWML
activities due to the present atmosphere which
have affected not just the LWML, but every ave-
nue we are walking on this day. So, knowing this,
and keeping our hands in the Lord’s for guidance,
the LWML ladies and specifically in our PSW Dis-
trict have worked so hard together to bring to us a
“virtual” Pacific Southwest District Convention,
technologically putting the parts together under
the wise guidance and leadership of our President
Bonnie Karch and the host of team leaders of our
PSW District LWML. Thanks to Bonnie, our Pas-

Prosopagnosia People who have prosopagnosia are not able to recognize faces. They recognize the individ-ual features as being nose or mouth or eyes,
but they are not able to know who the face be-longs to — not even if it is a close family mem-ber. Even more startling, they cannot even rec-
ognize their own faces. As tough as that would be, it would not be as
dangerous as not being able to recognize God’s face, not being able to see Him in our daily circumstances, not being able to notice how He takes care of us. Perhaps that is why the Psalms are filled with the reminder to seek
God’s face. Your face, LORD, I will seek (Psalm 27:8b).
Be on the lookout for God today. Even when you don’t feel His presence, God is with you.
He promises, “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Matthew 28:20b). Remember His promises and then thank Him
for watching over you.
Walking with my Lord Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for knowing my face and my heart. Help me to remember
Your loving, caring presence in every day of my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Simple Trust The Face in the Mirror
Women’s Witness and Mercy Asia is ask-
ing for $100,000. Asia is a harvest field ripe
for the gospel. Women in Mission realize that
our grants to missionaries in the field bring
God’s Word to a dying world. Asia is predom-
inately secular with Buddhist, Muslim, Hindu
and other false religions. Throughout Taiwan,
Thailand, Hong Kong, Macau and Southeast
Asia, ten women do various mission works
such as teaching, acts of mercy and witness-
ing the gospel. Some have husbands and
families working alongside of them while oth-
ers work with a team or alone. One mission-
ary teaches 242 students about Jesus in Tai-
wan while another has served for 10 years
planting seeds of mercy and witnessing in
Southeast Asia. Whether teaching English as
a Second Language in Thailand or building
relationships to open doors for sharing the
gospel, each woman in the mission field
helps in the growth God’s Kingdom. This
grant will help support these women in their
unique mission setting in Asia.
Thank you Lamb of God for your
continued support with mites!
