Tech Talk Counting strokes should be a part of every swimming

workout. Counting strokes is working on Distance

travelled Per Stroke (DPS). The object is to try and travel

maximum distance with minimal strokes. Your goal should

be to increase your speed, and maintain or lower your

stroke count. This is applicable to every stroke, every lap

set yourself a challenge.

Start to regularly count your strokes become more aware

of your DPS. This is especially helpful when sprinting.

During sprints swimmers tend to swim with faster arms, but

shorter strokes. This means you have to work harder to

cover the same distance.

Take the challenge, for the next month regularly count your

strokes, The next time trials you should see a marked

improvement.

Outstanding Swimmer

Congratulations to Steven L from Prairiewood Leisure Centre. Steven has been swimming for approximately nine years. When Steven first started, he wouldn't put his face in the water. Over time Steven has learnt to be water safe as well as learning the different strokes, swimming laps of freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke concisely through his lesson and is learning butterfly. Steven competed in a combined schools special swimming carnival and won his 50m freestyle and was placed in backstroke and breast-stroke. His parents are extremely proud of him and so is his swimming instructor.
