• LIST THREE NEEDS AND THREE WANTS.
ROLE OF VALUES
• ALSO EXAMINE YOUR VALUES – THE BELIEFS THAT GUIDE YOUR LIFE.
• THEY HELP YOU DETERMINE WHAT IS MORE IMPORTANT, LESS IMPORTANT, AND UNIMPORTANT.
• HELP STEER YOU TOWARD WHAT IS RIGHT FOR YOU AND NOT IN YOUR BEST INTEREST.
DIFFERING PRIORITIES
• PRIORITIES ARE DIFFERENT FROM PERSON TO PERSON.
• THEY CHANGE FROM TIME TO TIME. RIGHT NOW YOU MIGHT BE CONCERNED ABOUT A JOB, CAR, COLLEGE. IN 5 YEARS FROM NOW YOU MAY BE CONCERNED ABOUT A HOME, FAMILY ETC.
• WHY DO PRIORITIES DIFFER FROM PERSON TO PERSON?
SETTING GOALS
• ONCE YOU KNOW YOUR PRIORITIES, YOU CAN SET APPROPRIATE GOALS.
• GOAL – SOMETHING THAT YOU CONSCIOUSLY AIM TO ACHIEVE AND ARE WILLING TO PLAN AND WORK FOR.
• THEY ARE PERSONAL AND DIFFER FROM ONE PERSON TO ANOTHER.
SHORT-TERM AND LONG-TERM GOALS
• SHORT-TERM GOAL – SOMETHING YOU WANT TO ACCOMPLISH SOON (0-6 MONTHS)
• LONG-TERM GOAL – IS SOMETHING YOU PLAN TO ACCOMPLISH FURTHER IN THE FUTURE (6+ MONTHS)
• GIVE EXAMPLES OF SHORT-TERM AND LONG-TERM GOALS (THREE EACH) START THINKING OF WHAT IS IMPORTANT TO YOU!! IN 6 MONTHS, IN 5 YEARS, IN 10 YEARS, IN 20 YEARS.
FIXED AND FLEXIBLE GOALS
• FIXED GOAL – ONE THAT CAN ONLY BE MET AT A CERTAIN TIME.
• FLEXIBLE GOAL – HAS NO TIME FRAME.
AIMING FOR SUCCESS
• CREATE A PLAN!!!!!
• ANALYZE YOUR GOALS – IS IT SOMETHING YOU NEED OR WANT. DOES IT GO ALONG WITH YOUR VALUES?
• BE REALISTIC – IS IT SOMETHING THAT YOU CAN ACCOMPLISH?
• BE SPECIFIC – STATE GOALS IN TERMS THAT YOU CAN MEASURE WHETHER OR NOT THEY ARE ACCOMPLISHED.

• PUT GOALS IN WRITING – WRITE IT DOWN!!! REMEMBER IT!
• FOLLOW THROUGH – IF IT IS IMPORTANT MAKE SURE THAT YOU FOLLOW THROUGH AND ACCOMPLISH IT.
• WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO WRITE DOWN YOUR GOALS?
IDENTIFYING YOUR RESOURCES
• RESOURCE – SOMETHING THAT YOU CAN USE TO ACHIEVE YOUR GOAL.
• HUMAN RESOURCE – INCLUDE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, CREATIVITY, TIME, ENERGY, FAMILY AND FRIENDS.
• MATERIAL RESOURCES – PHYSICAL RESOURCES YOU USE TO ACCOMPLISH YOUR GOALS
• COMMUNITY RESOURCES – THEY INCLUDE FACILITIES SCHOOLS, MUSEUMS, LIBRARIES, HOSPITALS, PARKS, AND THEATRES.
• NATURAL RESOURCE – FOUND IN NATURE, AIR, WATER, SOIL, PLANT, AND MINERALS.
• GIVES EXAMPLES OF THESE RESOURCES.
USING RESOURCES WISELY
• EXPANDING RESOURCES – SOME RESOURCES THAT YOU HAVE CAN BE ENHANCED. FOR EXAMPLE, LEARNING A NEW SKILL, OR LEARNING MORE ABOUT AN EXISTING ONE.
• CONSERVING RESOURCES –SOME RESOURCES ARE FIXED. YOU NEED TO MAKE THE MOST OF WHAT YOU HAVE. EXAMPLE: TIME
• EXCHANGING RESOURCES – TRADING SKILLS WITH SOMEONE.
• SUBSTITUTING RESOURCES – RESOURCES THAT ARE PLENTIFUL ARE SWITCHED FOR THOSE THAT ARE NOT. YOU HAVE TIME AND SKILL, BUT NOT MONEY AND YOUR GRANDMOTHERS BIRTHDAY IS COMING UP. YOU DECIDE TO CROCHET A SCARF.
