ARAB TIMES, SUNDAY, JUNE 12, 2016 24 Lecture helps budding photographer develop their skills PINDOT holds Basic Photography workshop for OFWs By Michelle Fe Santiago Arab Times Staff T he Pinoy Digital Photographers in Kuwait (PINDOT) held a Basic Photography Workshop on Friday at the Sheikha Complex in Salmiya in line with the group’s ideals of sharing and learning. The workshop is the first of a series of workshops organised by the current PINDOT Execom to help Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) develop their skills and widen their knowledge in Photography. “The purpose of the lecture is to help our fellow OFWs who are interested in Photography to know their cameras better,” stated PINDOT President Ana Maria Escobar PINDOT — a Filipino word which means ‘Click’ in English founded in April 2008 is a group of Filipino workers and residents of Kuwait who share their common passion in Digital Photography. PINDOT aims to encourage its members to get the most from their talent by joining a commu- nity of like-minded individuals who love their art and enjoy sharing their knowledge in photography. Members are of various professions such as architects, engineers, nurses, media, technical workers, IT, advertising executives and many more. Exposure The photography workshop at- tended by around 30 participants was spearheaded by PINDOT founding member Brehn Garcia who intro- duced to the attendees the basics of Photography such as camera controls, settings and getting the right exposure and composition. He tackled basic photography topics that included Mastering DSLR basic settings such as Aperture, ISO and Shutter Speed, White Balance and other Basic Photography components necessary to having a proper Exposure. “It’s true that practice makes per- fect but knowing your DSLR’s most important settings inside out also helps to achieve consistently high- quality shots,” explained Garcia to the participants. The participants found the lecture handy and interesting especially to the budding photographers. “PINDOT has given a lot of up-to- date information regarding Photog- raphy which would help me become more knowledgeable and friendly to my camera!” stated Tron Hechanova, one of the participants. At the end of the workshop, PIN- DOT handed certificates of attendance to the participants. They all thanked the PINDOT officers and members for organising the workshop and for sharing their time and expertise in photography. In return, PINDOT assured everyone that more similar photography related lectures and activities are in line for this year. This lecture was sponsored in part by Q8 Realtors. Activities Among the various activities organ- ised by PINDOT in its eight years of existence were the grand EBs, photo shoots for a cause, series of lectures on Composition, post-processing — tips & tricks, HDR — tips & tricks, MACRO — tips & tricks and an introduction to Strobist, photo shoots and photo walks to enhance the skills of all the members. The group also organised two portraiture workshops dubbed ‘Landscape of Emotions’ fea- turing famous Filipino photographer Manuel Libres Librodo Jr. as well as a Photography Workshop under the tutelage of another Filipino photog- raphy icon, Parc Cruz and Metro- photo Hothouse Series – an intensive wedding photography workshop under Oly Ruiz, a Filipino wedding photography guru and last Novem- ber, PINDOT also organised the Cinematica X Workshop under Parc Cruz and Ku Manahan, a Pro Folio workshop under Jerico Montemayor, Mark Floro’s food photography work- shop and many more. Over-all Event Coordinator Oliver Diong welcomed all the distinguished guests to the event led by Philippine Ambassador to Kuwait Renato Pedro Villa, Labour Attache Cesar Chavez Jr, Welfare Officer Nestor Burayag, Pag- IBIG Fund Representative Mahmoud Khalil, SSS Representative Jeremy Redulla, officers and members of the various organisations as well as other expatriates. Villa and the rest of the embassy officials delivered inspiration messages to the audience. The program hosted by the vivacious duo PNA/PANIK President Hengie V Taton and Rexa Jope of OFW Movement was also marked by a food festival where delectable Filipino food from various organisations were shared during the lunch. On the side, raffle draw of prizes was held while members of the Ilocana Women’s Organization in Kuwait (IWOK) serenaded the audi- ence with some OPM songs. After the lunch, everyone was treated to the spectacular performances of the contestants in the singing competition dubbed “Biritan Kids.” The highlight of the Independence Day event was the quest for “Ms Lakambini 2016,” a beauty pageant showcasing the beauty, wit and talent of the modern Filipina hosted by Francis Jaranilla and Jope. The 12 gorgeous candidates sashayed on stage and competed for the best in Sports Wear, Casual Wear, Talent, Filipiniana and Evening gowns. After all the grueling competition, Jerrah Anne A Alvarez representing the True and Reformed Overseas Pilipino Association (TROPA) was crowned Coalition of Filcom Lakambini 2016. Trailing behind her were Donnalyn Ilagan, first runner-up (Maniniyot Ku- wait); Charm Ruano Serafino , second runner-up (Tiger FBII); Ma Kristine Abacano, third runner-up (OFW Shar- ing Love Foundation); Janseen C Idano, fourth runner-up (Club Ilonggo Ku- wait); and Hyacinth P Segurado, fifth runner-up (OFW Movement for Peace , Justice and Progress - Kuwait Chapter ). The Pinoy Digital Photographers in Kuwait (PINDOT) held a Basic

Photography Workshop on Friday at the Sheikha Complex in Salmiya in line with the group’s ideals of sharing and learning.

The workshop is the fi rst of a series of workshops organised by the current PINDOT Execom to help Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) develop their skills and widen their knowledge in Photography.

The Coalition of Filipino Community Organizations in Kuwait composed
