Light in buildings where we live and work, is essential to our wellbeing and productivity. With increasing pressure for buildings to be environmentally friendly and energy efficient, the choice of lighting products has to be carefully considered. As maintenance costs are constantly scrutinised, high efficiency, long life, energy saving LED lighting provides the perfect solution.

Why LED?

Reduced Carbon EmissionsLED converts up to 80% of energy into light. This both reduces energy costs and dramatically reduces carbon emission.

Cost EffectiveThe true cost of traditional light sources is not only in its energy consumption. There is also maintenance over its lifetime, replacement lamps and disposal costs. With LED, these costs don’t exist. LED is a Fit-&-Forget solution.

Safe LightingLEDs emit minimal Ultra Violet light (UV). UV light attracts insects and can be harmful to skin, clothing and artwork. Heat emissions are greatly reduced with LED, which means they are cool to touch and perfect for heat sensitive applications.

Instant Light & No FlickerLEDs produce 100% light instantly, with none of the warm up time required by fluorescent. Plus they are free of visible flicker - ideal to help prevent discomfort associated with traditional lighting.

Long LifeThe life of LED is between 4 and 40 times greater than traditional products.

What’s more, they produce consistent light output over their entire life.

DurabilityLEDs do not contain a filament that can be damaged by shock and vibration – making LED one of the most stable light sources available.

Primary spaces in healthcare environments are often open plan to maximise future flexibility in terms of cellular space and relocatable walls. Lighting levels will vary dramatically depending on the tasks being executed and the natural day light available. A well lit environment will stimulate employees and improve the feeling of well-being for patients and visitors in communal areas such as waiting rooms, cafes, treatment and consulting rooms.

50,000HOURS

Exceeds the requirements of the Society of Light and Lighting’s Lighting Guide 7 (SLL LG7) and EN12464-1;

• 65˚ cut-off angle to limit glare on screens

• UGR of 19 or lower to eliminate discomfort glare to room occupants

In addition to the above, LuxPanel’s can also offer exceptional efficacy of over 140 Luminaire lumens per circuit Watt (Llm/W) whilst providing illuminance and uniformity in accordance with the requirements of LG7 and EN12464-1. Many other LED panels can not meet all these requirements.

Due to their nature, these areas are often constantly lit even though not always in use. Clever use of simple lighting controls, can further reduce energy consumption using integral microwave sensors programmed to reduce the lux level and wattage of the luminaire, to operate at a low light level when unoccupied.

This allows energy to be saved without reducing the communal area to darkness, providing a safe lit environment for users.

Circulation areas can serve many purposes, from a waiting room to a central area between consulting rooms and offices. There will often be corridors and changes of level which should be carefully lit to enable safe movement.

Lighting controls can be employed to reduce lighting levels according to the natural daylight available and to reduce energy consumption when there is no traffic.

NEW FACILITIES AT HONITON SURGERY - “WELL LIT”

Residents of Honiton will have noticed lots of building work going on at their local doctor’s surgery. The end result is a new extension, which offers 6 new consulting rooms, a treatment room, waiting area and large meeting room. The new extension has enabled restructuring of the surgery’s workload and the appointment of extra staff. IQ Engineering Ltd, based in Newton Abbot, provided consultancy services for the building works, with the installation of the electrical services being carried out by REF Electrics (Taunton) Ltd. Luceco provided a cost effective yet totally LED lighting solution to meet the needs of the visitors and staff within the new extension at the surgery.

Significant energy savings have been made by the installation of LED LuxPanels. Providing instant,

safe lighting, the LuxPanel offers up to 50,000 hours working life with no maintenance or re-lamping required benefitting the environment in terms of energy efficiency and no lamp disposal. The LuxPack LED batten luminaire was also used, a surface mounted luminaire available in 4ft, 5ft and 6ft lengths.

Platinum LED Downlights are the ideal retrofit replacement for compact fluorescent luminaires, offering running cost savings of up to 80%. Designed to retrofit ceiling cut outs of common compact fluorescent downlights, the Platinum features easy fit positive locating swing out tabs and interchangeable bezel options including drop glass decorative halo and an IP54 versions.

Honiton Surgery has invited patients to have a look around the new facilities. With cost effective, energy saving LED luminaires from Luceco, the patients and staff alike, should enjoy the benefits of a “well lit” environment in which to visit and work.
