Grant’s Legacy: Propaganda Poster Ulysses S. Grant was extremely popular after the Civil War for his outstanding reputation as commander of the Union. President Grant is often considered a political failure due to his limited successes during Reconstruction, which included several post-war government scandals, but is that fair?
