Top 3 Benefits
Of Re-Engineering
Object Oriented application ensuring maintainability
Service oriented architecture conformance
No problems carried forward from Legacy
Top 3 Reasons
for Re-Engineering
Automated migrations or re-hosting solutions
have limitations
Need for infusing small requirements in target
Avoid carrying legacy challenges in target
platform
Many of the legacy application which were written more than 20 years ago fall short on current business needs
With the ever changing business landscape the ability to make changes to the application and roll it out in the market quickly is crucial for any business function
Syntel’s Legacy Re-engineering Service enables customers to replicate their existing business process in a distributed environment and migrate from legacy systems to Modern Agile systems

Customer Business
Function
• A leading U.S. provider of
integrated clinical
management services for
public sector health care
clients
Business Drivers
The legacy RCM system used
proprietary transaction format.
Only one clinical system could
interface with it compelling
vendor lock-in.
The RCM system needed to
be interfaced with all clinical
systems using different
versions of HL-7 messages
Engagement Details
Outsource Model – Fixed
Price
On:Off Ratio – 30:70
Team Size – 240+
Duration – 12 months
POD Technologies –
COBOL, CICS, JCL, Rexx,
DB2, VSAM, FTP
POA Technologies – .NET
4.0, ASP.NET, BizTalk, SQL
Server 2008, SSIS, CICS
Challenges Faced
The real-time interface for
the legacy RCM application
was developed in CICS-
based legacy file transfer
system, which could not be
changed.
CICS interface processed
10,000+ transfers every
hour.
The replacement interface
system was required to be
available 24x7x365
Syntel Solution End-2-End services (Business Analysis, Architecture, Design, Build, Test, &
Deploy) to develop an integration of clinical systems with the RCM application. Setup IT (architecture, orchestration, coding) standards for BizTalk
environment. 2-step mapping for HL-7 messages – HL7 2.x to HL7 2.5 (most complete and
widely implemented version) & HL-7 2.5 to proprietary format. Integration of BizTalk with existing CICS based FTP to minimize the impact
and risk on the legacy side. Future-ready mapping for incorporation of HL-7 3.0 Phased onboarding of hospitals in the BizTalk environment
Customer Benefits• Ability to dynamically manage business
rules.• Seamless integration with clinical systems• Financial reporting accuracy• Ability to integrate more hospitals without
requiring migration of clinical systems• Freedom from vendor lock-in for the clinical
systems• Zero Impact to all upstream & downstream
applications
