2003-04 Lenoir-Rhyne saw the arrival of Crystal Clary, a transfer from Campbell, and the junior center spearheaded the Bears to its first-ever South Atlantic Conference Regular Season Title. Clary was named a First-Team NCAA Division II All-American and produced one of the best seasons by a Bear in school history. L-R shared the SAC Regular Season Title with Catawba and Wingate.

2008-09 Coming off of back-to-back winning seasons under Head Coach Todd Starkey, Lenoir-Rhyne’s 2008-09 campaign proved to be the best since entering the NCAA. The Bears won 27 games for the first time since 1980-81, marking just the fourth time L-R won 20-plus games in a season. The team also posted an all-time program-best .841 winning percentage. L-R shared the South Atlantic Conference Regular Season Championship with Tusculum College. The Bears would then knock off Tusculum to win the 2009 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament Title. The win marked the first time in program history L-R captured both the SAC Regular Season and Tournament Championships in the same year. That was enough to land the Lenoir-Rhyne the No. 1 seed in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Tournament. As host and top seed, L-R knocked off No. 8 Anderson, 69-58, but would fall in the second round to No. 2 Francis Marion, 93-74. Head Coach Todd Starkey was recognized as National Coach of the Year by the WBCA.

L-R finished the year with a 21-8 mark (13-3 in league play) and put together back-to-back 20-victory seasons for the first time in 28 years.
