WORSHIP First Sunday in Lent

Eleven o’clock Sunday, February 17, 2013

PRELUDE Judy Fiske WESTMINSTER CHIME (Please prepare for worship.) CALL TO WORSHIP Sanctuary Choir “Lead Me, Lord”…………………………………………………….….Wesley HYMN #452 “Praise and Thanksgiving Be to God”………CHRISTE SANCTORUM WELCOME TO GUESTS AND VISITORS BAPTISM Wade Severns

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE/LORD’S PRAYER Jenny and Jerry Jones Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy Name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen

CHURCH FLOWERS Due to the Lenten season, we are not purchasing flowers for the Sanctuary. How-ever, we encourage anyone to sign up for flowers in memory or in honor of a loved one, as they will be placed in the foyers or on the table in the back of the Sanctu-ary. The cost is $50.00.

Leader: We have come to the water in this holy moment, baptizing Wade Severns, in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, according to the command of our Lord. People: In the name of the Father and of the Son an d of the Holy Spirit, we come to the water acknowledging and af firming our brother Wade in this sacred act of baptism, symbolizing the death, burial, and resurrection o f Jesus Christ our Lord.

Leader: In baptism, Wade joins with this body of Christ and with the larger Church. He affirms his commitment to Christ and to Christ’s church. People: As witnesses of Wade’s baptism, we recogniz e Wade’s commitment to Christ and His church, and we are mindful of our own calling in Christ. Leader: We believe that God has called Wade to this place to be a part of us, and we a part of him.

VOTE FOR NEW DEACON BOARD MEMBERS—TODAY The following are the names of the new Deacon Board nominees (to serve three years) replacing those who are rotating off the Board this year: Megan Strollo, Jessica Corbitt, Kathryn Hall, Say Wah Htoo, Jim McMurray, Chuck Corbin, Bonnie Bailey and Jerry Spiller. A ballot has been inserted in this bulletin.

A COMMUNITY READ DURING LENT Join the church staff in reading a novel during Lent (February 13 - March 28). We will be reading and chatting about The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry. This nov-el, written by Rachel Joyce, was published in 2012. It is a delightful book that fol-lows the journey of a retired Englishman who begins a pilgrimage to visit a former co-worker who is dying of cancer. As he walks across the English countryside he encounters many interesting people and situations. There should be plenty of used copies on the internet and e-versions are also available. Lent is a time of pilgrimage so we will be reading and discussing this joyful and challenging journey to see what we can learn from Harold Fry.

LUNCHEON AND BRIEF TOWN MEETING SCHEDULED FOR MARCH 3: SABBATICAL FOR OUR PASTOR Please make plans to join us after worship on Sunday, March 3. All proceeds from lunch will help send our youth to summer camp in Louisville, Ky. The town meeting will focus on a potential sabbatical for our Pastor during the summer of 2014. The church will need to make a decision by early April about applying for the Lily Endowment's National Clergy Renewal Grant. The brief meeting will offer im-portant details and give the congregation an opportunity to ask questions. The Sab-batical Team and Deacon Board have already begun the dialogue and we hope you will join us.

CHANGE IN TCCC COMMITTEE MEETING Please note that the regular meeting of the TCCC Committee has been changed to Monday, February 25, at 5:30 p.m. The meeting is scheduled to be held in the Fel-lowship Hall. Please mark your calendars with this change.

EASTER LILIES If you would like to purchase lilies to be displayed in the Sanctuary on Easter Sun-day in honor or in memory of a loved one, please place your order and check in the offering plate by Palm Sunday, March 24. The cost per plant is $13.00. A form can be found at the back of the Sanctuary and on the flower table in the hallway.

GOD’S MISSION, YOUR PASSION Each year thousands of lives are changed because people like you give to the CBF Offering for Global Missions. Pray about giving a gift today. 100 percent of your gift to the CBF Offering will go to help people hear and experience the gospel of Jesus Christ. Give and touch the lives of people you may never meet. A brochure and envelope will be inserted in our bulletins for Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday.
