LETCHWORTH STATE PARK INFORMATIONLetchworth state park is a 14,427 acre state park located in Livingston and Wyoming counties, New York. The park is roughly 17 miles long and follows the course of the Genesee River.

Letchworth State Park is known as the “Grand Canyon of the East.” The Genesee River runs through the gorge over three major waterfalls between cliffs as high as 600 feet surrounded by forest. There are 66 miles of hiking trails. There are also trails for horseback riding, biking, snowmobiling, and cross-country skiing. Letchworth offers nature, history and performing arts programs, guided walks, tours, whitewater rafting, kayaking, and hot air ballooning.

In 1856, Industrialist William Pryor Letchworth bought 1000 acres of land and built Glen Iris Estate. In 1906, he willed the estate to New York which soon became Letchworth State Park.

DESIGN STATEMENT Letchworth is a rustic park with a lot of fun and cool things to do such as hot air ballooning. The park offers a river, waterfalls, forest, and trails so the theme of the design for the welcome center should stay with the color scheme of nature but also have a contemporary twist. Taking inspiration of the park, such as: wood, rock, greenery, water, and natural light, for color and giving a contemporary twist with accents should make the welcoming center feel fun and exciting. The goal is to draw people in to this welcome center for guidance before entering the park.
