Established in 1987, the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron Charity Regatta provides an opportunity for the Squadron to support local charities and causes in addition to providing Squadron Sponsors, Corporate Members and their guests an opportunity to socialise and network during an afternoon of sailing and an evening of entertainment.

This year the ‘Great Blake Race’ is sailing in support of two great causes; The Sir Peter Blake Trust and the Squadron’s own International Sailing Fund. Monies raised from the event go towards the SPBT Young Blake Expeditions and our ISF that supports our hottest sailing and race management talent to attend overseas regattas.

We are delighted you are joining us for a day of sailing with the ‘Great Blake Race’; plenty of international food, wine and beer, live music and entertainment, live auction with some items money just can’t (CAN!) buy!

The Sir Peter Blake Trust continues the legacy started by this great New Zealander.

Sir Peter Blake’s leadership, love for the environment and dedication to helping young

people achieve their goals and develop their leadership capability is at the heart of all

the programmes we deliver. Our purpose is to inspire and shape the next generation of

Kiwi leaders, adventurers and environmentalists. In February 2016, the Trust undertook

its third Young Blake Expedition to the Sub-Antarctic place synonymous with Peter’s

name and an area he was passionate about. Your generous support of the RNZYS

Charity Regatta and ‘Great Blake Race’; will go toward the funding of this and future

expeditions including the creation of Blake Station in the Sub-Antarctic. Thank you

from the Sir Peter Blake Trust.

The Squadron’s International Sailing Fund has supported the Squadron’s hottest sailing

and race management talent to attend overseas regattas, and in many cases launch

international sailing careers, for over 28 years. Since its inception in 1987 the fund has

raised and provided in excess of $500,000 and for over 220 recipients - many of whom

you now see sailing in the America’s Cup, Volvo Ocean Race, Olympics and on the ISAF

World Match Racing Circuit – Phil Robertson current #1, Chris Steele, Adam Minoprio,

Ryan Houston – Team Alvemedica Volvo Ocean Race 2014/15 – to name a few! There

is little doubt that New Zealand’s yachting successes can be attributed to the financial

support of this fund. Your support of the RNZYS 2016 Charity Regatta directly supports

the Squadron’s, and indeed New Zealand’s, rockstar sailors and race management talent

of tomorrow.
