2013-14 RAHA Board of Directors

We are excited to announce that this year that the girls traveling program is fully back in Irish gear!

REV hockey was the combination of a nine year of merger between EVHA and RAHA girl’s. There

is a history of an excellent relationship between the Association with many new friendships fostered

between both the players and the parents. The decision to combine or separate has been an annual

decision based on each Association’s needs. REV rules and bylaws took each Associations Hand-

books into consideration and resulted in a partnership that allowed in flexibility for each association

However, REV was a short term solution to solve low numbers in each community and the climate is

changing precipitating the need to separate REV. There are multiple reason for the Associations to

severe the partnership. First and foremost, the girls desire to represent their own association. We

are excited to see the Rosemount girl players in Irish jerseys this year. Additionally both District 8 as

well as the Rosemount High school girls coach are requesting the separation. The number of RAHA

girls are growing and having a girls program independent of another association allows visibility to

girl’s hockey for the associations. Having a free standing girls program is needed to grow number

and will help to solve the problem of low numbers versus placing a Band-Aid on it. Surveys of neigh-

boring associations show that they have similar numbers in their girls programs and have free stand-

ing programs. Finally, keeping all of our Irish girls in our program allows a greater number of girls

playing at a higher level (A level).

We are moving to community-based teams for the 2013-2014 season. Moving forward we ideally

will have the top players from each community playing together and rostered as an A teamed. Girls

requiring more development may be shared pending numbers and association needs. This year we

will have separate community-centric 10U and 12U teams.

In the future we will continued to work with Boards, evaluators and coaches and always keep the

girls best interest in mind. Again, we look forward to watching the girls play this year in their full

Irish gear!

A Message from the Board - Hockey Helmets

New Helmet Rules-USA Hockey

This year USA Hockey has implemented a rule change pertaining to player safety and the certifica-tion requirements for helmets. The linked memo (below) was issued by USA Hockey and outlines the details of the rule change. In short, all helmets to be worn in USA Hockey sanctioned events are required to be in compliance with rule 304 (c). This will most likely not impact most of you this year as most helmets (Bauer, Reebok, CCM, etc.) are currently manufactured with a HECC sticker on them and approved for use in USA Hockey events. The new rule adds an expiration date to the hel-met sticker that defines the useful life of a helmet at roughly 6 and a half years. As you replace your players equipment keep this requirement in mind and look for the new stickers. If your player's cur-rent helmet does not have a certification sticker on it, please consider replacing the helmet as it's useful life may have expired and/or it might not be an approved helmet today. USA Hockey and RAHA want to make sure our players are all experi-encing our great sport safely. If you have any questions or are unsure about your players helmet please ask your coach or ACE Coordinator, Dan Nicklay @ [email protected] for assistance. The USA Hockey Memorandum RULE 304(c) Protective Equipment - Enforcement Guidelines can be found at rosemounthockey.org.

New Equipment Rules from RAHA Board of Directors With this USA Hockey rule change, the RAHA Board of Directors has an opportunity to set uniform equipment color standards for our RAHA players. At the present time, there is no rule or guidelines as to equipment color for helmets, gloves and breezers. Our uniforms are an important facet of our Irish culture and an integral part the uni-form is the color of the players protective equipment. Our distinctive uniform is a unifying factor with-in our RAHA community and having multiple players with different helmets, breezers or gloves can be a distraction to this unity. With the new rule change regarding the HECC stickers on the helmets, we realize that many players will be purchasing new helmets and we request that NAVY helmets be purchase. We have passed a new policy taking effect next season, which requires all players at the Peewees, Bantams, U12 and U 14 players to have a Navy helmet, Navy gloves, and Navy beezers for the 2014-15 season. This rule will come into effect in the 2015-2016 season for Squirts and U10 players. This rule excludes goalies.
