Located in historic Bedford County,

London Downs Golf Club opened June 1991.

It was designed and built by renowned

course architect Russell Breeden, and is

owned and operated by Ted Counts. It quick-

ly became a favorite for golfers all over

Central and Southwest Virginia.

With gently rolling hills and undulating

greens, the course is challenging but fair.

London Downs is always in great condition.

The bent grass greens are true and moder-

ately quick. Bermuda grass fairways are

plush in the summer and are over seeded in

the fall to maintain a good playing surface in

the winter months. From the tips the course

measures 7118 yards. There are two main

lakes and 10 ponds throughout the course,

and a beautiful view of the Peaks of Otter can

be seen as you tee off the 10th hole.

London Downs has hosted two SBC

Futures tour events and also the Teardrop

tour, and plays host to numerous charity and

corporate events throughout the year.

Poplar Grove Golf Club was the final

design of golf legend Sam Snead. Teaming

up with Ed Carton, formerly of the Tom Fazio

design group, Sam Snead's final design effort

reflects a culmination of a lifetime in champi-

onship golf.

Carved through native Virginia forest,

the layout features rolling terrain, natural

streams and lakes, and sweeping mountain

views.

Five sets of tees provide challenges

for all levels of golfers to enjoy, while finely

maintained bent grass greens, tees, and fair-

ways will ensure superior playing conditions

for everyone.

Indeed the legendary vision of Sam

Snead will establish Poplar Grove as a con-

temporary classic. Poplar Grove was nation-

ally recognized as No. 8 Best New Upscale

and is home to several championship tourna-

ments. With magnificent views of the Blue

Ridge Mountains, it is the perfect location for

tournaments, weddings, private parties, and

many other events.
