Tips to Boost Sales & Profits
Life Began In A Garden!
~ Buy in sufficient quantity at the right price. There is
no doubt that the more pottery you stock, the more you
will sell.
~ Offer variety! Buy often to keep your inventory fresh.
~ Read garden and trade magazines to keep up with the
trends! 2012 is projected to be the year of the vertical
planter and the low bowl. Symmetry is out! Instead of
matching containers, the look of combining different sizes
and shapes is in.
~ Customers shop with you for more than just products.
They look to you for your knowledge, ideas and expertise.
~ Create an experience. Keep them coming back!

Containers are used in various ways in
different settings. They can embellish every
garden, large or small. They can be used for
focal points, creating rooms and features,
growing herbs and fruits, background
plantings, framing doorways, lining steps or
simply to enhance the beauty of the existing
landscape It’s no wonder why the container
garden craze is growing!

Know The Facts
FROST-PROOF POTTERY
YEAR ROUND PROFIT!
~ The Clay Market’s unique line of glazed pottery is
durable, weather-proof and a great investment!
~ Our glazed pottery is artfully crafted from premium
ceramic clay and baked at high temperatures for long-
lasting strength.
~ Each piece is fired in kilns that reach 2500 Degrees
Fahrenheit for 55 days! This process closes the pores and
increases the wall density resulting in the most frost-
resistant pottery in the world.
~ Our glazed pottery is safe to leave out year round in the
Southeast as long as measures are taken to insure good
drainage.
~ The best way to insure good drainage is to fill the
bottom of the planter with packing peanuts or pebbles
before adding the potting soil. Planters should also be
elevated so that drainage holes are not blocked. Pot feet
work great for this purpose and are decorative as well!
~ Care should be taken when using our pottery indoors,
as moisture can develop under the pot.
~ The most obvious way to judge the quality of pottery is
by the weight and the thickness of the walls.
~ Our hand-glazed containers reduce water use by 50%
compared to traditional terracotta!
Educate staff! Knowledge grows
enthusiasm and confidence.

~ Display ~ Display ~
~Display~ Merchandising is an art that sells product. Be
creative with displays & watch sales grow!
~ Choose a key spot in your store to create a
large colorful display of different styles of
pottery mixed with seasonal plants and props.
~ It’s a fact, products at eye level sell quicker!
Use pedestals scattered throughout your store to
add height. Concrete blocks make an easy to
change display unit and can be painted, draped
or layered with stucco.
~ Sell a project! Utilize space near a register
for a “potting bench” display. Include
everything needed to plant a seasonal container
garden. A trowel, potting soil, fertilizer, plants,
“how to” lists and a few unique glazed planters.
~ Don’t miss the opportunity to pull in traffic
with a display visible from the street. Impact
displays give passers-by an interest in what you
have inside.
~ Create displays that appeal to the senses or
tell a story! Keep a fresh look and change often.
~ Grouping pottery by color or mixing in an
accent or contrasting glaze makes a great
statement! Make it pop! Color is powerful!
~ Cross merchandising is very important.
It will enable you to maximize sales!
Display pottery in vignettes to show
customers creative ways to use them.
Turn a large urn into an outdoor table
by simply adding a glass top!
Signage!
~ Use signs to educate, direct, suggest and promote!
~ Jump –start sales and increase profits with tags, signs,
stakes and banners.

~ Make a point by using simple signage with colorful
photos to draw attention.

that make suggestions. “Why not try growing a potted
herb garden? It’s easy-really!”
~ Incorporate digital signage! Create a powerpoint
presentation on “do it yourself” container design and
planting.
~ A flat screen TV showcases “how to” videos.
All signs equal a boost in sales! Marketing studies have shown a significant
spike in sales when good signage is used for a
product line or promotion.
Signage pulls a garden center together
and presents a finished look to the
retail space. It communicates details
on a product and provides opportunity
to cross-sell. It also helps employees be
more knowledgeable and helpful.
Bottom line is – it sells products!

the finished product!

remaining annuals as a free gift with purchase of a
decorative planter.
~ Winter preparation promo. Offer free pot feet with
the purchase of a large frost-proof pot.
~ Promote the value of switching to glazed Vietnamese
planters that will weather well thru winters in the
Southeast.
~ An outstanding way to reduce inventory in the slow
