LIFE OF THE SKY BAGPART 3 Continue to use the box to add these next flowers and help shape the bag. Remember: Use photos as a guide for general placement and joining of your flowers. It does not have to be exactly the same as photos—Freeform!! You will notice some spaces between some flowers. These will be filled in during Part 5 of this CAL. Filling in now may affect the placement of flowers in Parts 4 & 5 so try to wait! Part 3 Summary: Add more flowers and decorative rows to front of bag. List of flowers used in Part 3: Summer Day Flower: 1 Popcorn Flower: 1 Heart Flower: 1 Bullion Petals Flower: 5 Spiral: 1 Double Bullion Flower: 2 Puff Stitch: (Yo, insert hook, yo and pull up a loop to height of a dc) 5 times, yo and pull through all 11 loops, ch1 to close (does not count as a stitch). Double Bullion Stitch: *Ch 4 (hook under the chains, yo and draw loop around chains, yo, draw through loop), 8 times, 9 loops on hook. Insert hook in the same (or next) space as ch4. Yo, pull through all loops on hook. (You may find it easier to make a sc before pulling through all loops.) Pull loop longer so that all 9 loops lie flat and are not bunched up. Leave this long loop on hook. Insert hook into next space, yo and pull up loop*. Repeat * * for each double bullion stitch. Note: when working subsequent double bullion sts, on the 4 th chain work both loops off the hook. Part 3Detailed Guildeline: These photos are a guide only to help with flower placement. The numbers correspond to a step in this part of the pattern. Not all steps are numbered on these pictures. (Back of Bag) (Front of Bag)

LIFE  OF  THE  SKY  BAG-‐-‐PART  3      Continue  to  use  the  box  to  add  these  next  flowers  and  help  shape  the  bag. Repeat  *  -‐*  for  each  double  bullion  stitch.  Note:  when  working  subsequent  double  bullion  sts,  on  the  4th  chain  work  both  loops  off  the  hook.        Part  3-‐-‐Detailed  Guildeline:    These  photos  are  a  guide  only  to  help  with  flower  placement.  The  numbers  correspond  to  a  step  in  this  part  of  the  pattern.  Not  all  steps  are  numbered  on  these  pictures.    (Back  of  Bag)         (Front  of  Bag)

   1.    Begin  at  top  left  of  front  of  bag  at  joining  point  of  Spiral  and  Bullion  Petals  Flower.  Make  *4  dc  in  space  between  popcorn,  sk  1  popcorn*  repeat  until  halfway  around  Spiral,  attaching  another  Summer  Day  Flower  in  two  spots  as  shown  in  photo.  Continue  in  pattern  to  2nd  last  popcorn  of  Spiral.  Sl  st  in  ch  sp  between  them,  (dc  in  back  loop  of  next  2  sts  of  Heart  Flower,  ch1),  repeat  across  flower  to  next  Bullion  Flower.  (Photo  P1)

P1    2.    Make  another  Double  Bullion  Flower  and  attach  to  top  of  bag,  first  Spiral  and  2nd  Summer  Day  Flower  that  wraps  around  to  the  back  of  the  bag.  (Photo  P2)

P2    3.  Make  a  Bullion  Petals  Flower.  On  the  last  round  join  it  to  another  Hearts  Flower  and  to  bottom  of  the  round  of  dc  you  just  completed  on  the  other  Hearts  Flower  (see  photo  for  placement).  (Photos  P3  &  P4)

P3        P4    4.  Attach  yarn  at  the  join  between  the  last  two  4  dc  groups  of  Spiral.  From  join,  ch1,  (puff  st  in  ch1-‐sps,  ch1)  repeat  across,  join  to  chains  under  petal  of  Bullion  Petals  Flower.  Fasten  off.  (Photo  P5)

P5    5.  With  wrong  side  facing,  attach  yarn  into  a  ch  5  space  on  back  of  Bullion  Petal  Flower  (closest  to  the  puff  stitch  row)  3  sc  in  first  space  between  puffs,  3  sc  in  each  of  next  8  spaces,  joining  to  Spiral.    6.  Ch  1,  turn.  *Sc  in  next  sc.  Ch  5,  sc  in  second  chain  from  hook,  hdc  in  next,  dc  in  next  2  sts,  skip  one  sc  from  step  5,  sc  in  next*  8  times.    Fasten  off  (Photo  P6)

P6      7.    With  wrong  side  facing  attach  yarn  into  a  ch  5  space  of  Bullion  Petal  Flower,  ch  2,  sk  1  sc  of  previous  row,  dc  into  the  next  sc,  *ch  3,  dc  into  sc  of  step  5*  9  times.  Ch1,  join  to  second  dc  in  second  4  dc  group  on  Spiral.  Turn  work.  Ch  4,  sl  st  to  the  next  space  between  third  and  fourth  4dc  group  on  spiral.  Work  one  double  bullion  stitch  with  8  wraps  around  ch  4  and  tops  of  each  dc  of  the  3rd  dc  group  on  Spiral  then  2  double  bullion

stitches  with  8  wraps,  in  each  ch  3  space  across,  working  only  one  double  bullion  in  last  space.  Join  to  back  of  Bullion  Petals  Flower  and  fasten  off.  (Photo  P7)

       P7

 8.  Make  a  Popcorn  Flower.  On  last  round  join  to  the  second  Hearts  Flower,  and  Bullion  Petals  Flower  and  between  the  2dc  groups  worked  around  other  Hearts  Flower.  (Photo  P8)

P8      (Steps  9  and  10  see  P9)    9.  Make  a  Double  Bullion  Flower  attaching  it  to  the  Summer  Day  Flower  on  the  right,  the  other  Double  Bullion  Flower  and  the  Popcorn  Flower.      10.  Make  a  Bullion  Petal  Flower.  Attach  using  chains  and  sl  sts  to  the  Double  Bullion  Flower  just  made,  the  right  side  of  the  Popcorn  Flower  and  the  top  right  of  the  Heart  Flower.  (Photo  P9)

P9          11.  Make  another  Spiral  (see  note  below)  and  another  Bullion  Petals  Flower  (join  to  Spiral  as  you  work  last  round-‐-‐see  photo).  Using  slip  stitches  and  chains,  join  Spiral  to  the  right  (with  the  top  of  the  bag  at  the  bottom)  of  the  2nd  Hearts  Flower  and  to  the  top  of  the  double  bullion  stitches  on  the  first  Hearts  Flower  as  well  as  to  the  new  Bullion  Petals  Flower.    (Photo  P10)  Note:  Spiral-‐-‐  as  photo  9  &  10  show  you  need  to  reduce  the  number  of  spokes  to  16  to  enable  it  to  sit  correctly  on  the  bag.  Suggest  working  only  one  spoke  into  each  stitch  instead  of  where  pattern  says  2.  Adjust  the  second  round  of  stitches  accordingly.

 P10

12.  Make  2  Bullion  Petal  Flowers.  On  last  round,  join  one  flower  to  bottom  of  Spiral  and  Summer  Day  Flower  on  the  left  side  of  bag.  Attach  the  other  Bullion  Petal  Flower  to  it  and  to  the  bullion  stitches  at  the  bottom  of  Heart  Flower  as  well  as  the  Bullion  Petal  Flower  made  in  Step  11.    (Photo  P11)
