Introducing the LewisesIntroducing the Lewises
Great Plains Conference appointed Pastor John Lewis as our new minister
beginning July 1st. We welcome Pastor John and his family to our
church! Hi Scott City UMC, This is our family photo from a couple weeks ago. It’s easy to pick me out on the left. Krystal, my wife, is beside me. Sabrina and then Erica are our daughters. Krystal and I grew up in Wamego and Marysville respectively. Much of my ministry over the last twenty years has been in north central Kansas. I pastored at Ness City in the late 1990s, though; and I’m glad to be returning to western Kansas. The new Avengers movie ends with Captain America almost giving the classic Avengers’ call to assemble. (You’ll find that I reference movies fairly often.) Assemble is a call to come together for a cause larger than self. I’m excited to assemble with you for the cause of Christ, that the power of the Lord Jesus may assemble with us (1 Corinthians 5:4), the same power that
raised Christ from the dead (Romans 8:11). ~Pastor John Lewis

Staying Connected
Life’s Little Flaws
I was struggling the other day trying to figure out what to write this month’s article about. Then my wife suggested I write about setting up our camper, so here it goes. We hadn’t used our little pop-up camper for a couple of years and my son and some friends wanted to use it to stay out at the lake one night. So one evening I dragged it around to the front of the house. After a few more days we set it up, not knowing the condition it would be in since it had sat unused for a couple of years. I noticed that there were a few things wrong, but the inside of the camper was mainly just dirty. No uninvited guest had been living in it, so in my mind we were all good! Because it is summer and my two kids need constructive things to do, I told them it was their job to clean it out over the next couple of days. One afternoon my son called me and proceeded to tell me that there are all these things wrong with the camper and we just needed to junk it. I asked him for a little more detailed information and explained that it is an old camper and it definitely has some little flaws; but a lot of it could probably be fixed fairly easy and that I would look at it when I got home. So the rest of the day I thought, “Man how bad could it really be?” When I got home, I was relieved that it was really only minor things and I proceeded to fix most of them. So what does this have to do with anything? I was reminded that we are just like the camper, we all have little flaws (sins). Because of those flaws, does Jesus just junk us—discard us as used, worthless material? No, He still loves us, flaws and all. Just like the camper, it may take some work to fix those flaws and be made new again. A little elbow grease, a lot of prayer, and admitting our sins to Christ. Once we recognize the problem and take that step to admit we have sinned, we can turn them over to the greatest carpenter of all time. So just remember we are all repairable in Christ’s eyes. 1 John 1:9 states,
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to
cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” ~ Chad

of the prophets and kings who were set apart by their close walk with God. Each
